Hi, I'm also looking for Balfours. Margaret Balfour, born c. 1780, married William Lister in Kinglassie Fife. They had kids James b. 1805, John b. 1807 and daughter Augnus born 1809. Any info on Margaret or her husband William greatly appreciated.

I notice I also have a David Balfour - but he's on an offshoot branch of my tree, so all I have for him is an approximate birthdate of 1820.  This David apparently had an Aliment Decree to say he had to pay for the daughter he had with Euphemia Bain, in 1853  :-\
I live in Sydney, Australia, and I'm researching: Powell, Tatham, Dunbar, Dixon, Mackwood, Kinnear, Mitchell, Morgan, Delves, & Anderson

Chiad:

I see this is an old thread so maybe you have secured this line already.  If you have I would be interested to know if your Catherine Balfour is the daughter of John Balfour and Jean Wilson of Markinch.

I have a Helen Balfour I believe was born 30 Jan 1774 to John Balfour and Jean Wilson of Markinch.

I am trying to determine if Helen Balfour b. 30 Jan 1774 Markinch married Alexander Easton b. circa 1760.  My Easton line is actually from Kirkcaldy area and Alexdr married a "Nellie" Balfour and I am assuming "Nellie" might actually be "Helen".

This presently my brick wall.

I have more info on John Skinner and Catherine Balfour and will post more details when I get a bit of time. I agree that it looks likely that Catherine died as a result of complications following childbirth.

Catherine is one of 4 or 5 of my direct ancestors who died very young, I have a number of others all of whom died in their 20s, a minor miracle that I'm here at all really!

Omap - Catherine Balfour is not the daughter of John Balfour and Jean Wilson.

I am new to this site and am still finding my way.  I have Balfour's in my family.  Janet Gilmour Balfour was my great grandmother.  Her parents were William Balfour, a coalminer inspector in Auchterderran, and Mary Clark.
My grandmother, Mary Arnott and her brother, Thomas were the children of William and Janet Arnott.
Can anyone give any more info on this family from Fife?

Many thanks
Lorraine

I have 2 Balfours in my tree - John Balfour (unk, unk) was the father of Mary Jane Balfour, b. 1865 in Kilconquhar, to Jane Rodger. They were not married.  My husband's ggrandfather James Wallace adopted her when he married Jane Rodger. Mary Jane used Rodger Wallace as her name. She married George Michie and moved to Wisconsin, where she had 6 daughters. She has quite the tribe of descendants there now.
