Ardwick Manchester
« on: Sunday 20 August 06 20:07 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find a marriage date for my relative Joseph Hopkins, born c.1840
Ardwick. He married an Elizabeth and they lived in Ardwick before moving to Leeds. I would love to know her surname. I am aware that there was flooding at the records offices affecting a lot of Ardwick material. Can anyone help me though?
Thanks

Hi Joanna,

The safest way to know would be to order one of the children's birth certs.

However, I see they have a child age 2 on the 1861 census, and she was from Manchester.

I can see a likely marriage:
September quarter 1858
Manchester 8d 269
Joseph Hopkins to possibly Elizabeth Drake

The 1841 has an Elizabeth Drake age 2 in Manchester as follows
HO107/577/19 12 18
Joseph Drake, 40, Cotton Spinner
Joseph , 7
Cornielus, 4
Elizabeth, 2

Thankyou so much. I am sure this is the one as she went on to have a son Cornelius..surely an unusual name! Very much appreciated.

Hi Ian,

How are you? Hope all is well. I would love to know what you've found out about our Hopkins family!!! Unfortunately I have been without a computer for a while, so I'm afraid I haven't managed to see your message before now
