He is your first cousin once removed.

Common ancestor is your great grandfather who was his grand father.

Count the "g"s to each of you

G Grand father is two Gs for you
Grandfather is one G for him.

Smallest number is one G and so first cousin.
Difference is one G (two minus one) and so once removed.

David

thank you Dave
It all makes sense now

And another aunt and uncle in 1934 with my Mother on the left, Grandmother and my Father between the bride and groom in Bray Berkshire.

The little girl on the left looks so contemporary so that was your mother?.... she would look in place on a wedding photo today

Cal243,
Yes, I'm enjoying this thread too.

I obviously didn't make my caption very clear, apologies.
Here are another couple of pics that have been adapted by the wonderful restorers here on RC.
The first, my mother and grandmother.
The second, a great result, putting my mother, grandmother and my father  together as if by magic.  Again thanks to RC restorers.

I'm a newbie, but I couldn't resist putting my parents wedding photo up - This is 1950 in Belfast.

My wedding photograph 1964 divorced 1990 hence I've blocked out his face.  I don't think he'd like to be on here!

I'm not a new member....but I'll add this one......it turned up last year at my Mum's....when asked about it she told me that it was my grandmother's sister's wedding in 1929.

"And" said my mother, "the little girl on the left is me."

It's a wonder you didn't all hear my shouts of joy.....it was the first photograph on my mother as a child....the earliest we'd ever seen was one taken on her 21st birthday.

Two very kind Rootschatters have taken my mother out of the group photograph and I now have a restored and coloured delightful individual photograph of my darling Mum.
