Robert MALLETT Copyright Ownership
« on: Wednesday 16 August 06 22:09 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help me? I am trying to locate the family of the artist Robert Mallett (1867-1950). I have seen your postings in this website and thought that you may be able to help me. I am the Editor of a series of catalogues called Oil Paintings in Public Ownership and we are currently working on our Norfolk volume (our project involves cataloguing all oil paintings held in public ownership in the UK on a county by county basis, (Norfolk will be our 10th catalogue - please visit www.thepcf.org.uk for further information). At Norwich Castle Museum there is a painting by Robert Mallett In a Wood, Taverham and I would like to obtain copyright permission from the artist's family so that we can reproduce the artist's paintings in our catalogues.  Would anyone happen to know who the copyright holder for this artist's work is? I would be very grateful for any leads that anyone may be able to provide.

We are an Arts Charity and are based at the National Gallery, London. All of the proceeds we gain from catalogue sales go towards painting restoration and gallery education.

Should you have any further questions, please do let me know. Thank you in advance for evryone's help.

With best wishes,

Sonia Roe

Hi

Have you not contacted the Castle Museum?  That would seem to be the obvious first place!

Hi Sonia

Thanks for you PM: I have sent you some contact info (courtesy of Google!) of living MALLETTs by PM - no idea whether they are related, but it might be worth a try!

I think my best suggestion at the moment would be to look for an obituary in The Times - although thinking about it, a will would be extremely helpful!

I see that there are MALLETT researchers who list Robert on GR, maybe someone with access could help you to contact them, or you could consider joining?

This is a fascinating piece of research and I wish you well - let's hope Rootschatters can come up trumps!

Anyone know a MALLETT from Norfolk??  ;D

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi . my grandfathers half brother was named Robert Mallett . He was born in Reedham , Norfolk in 1868 , and moved to County Durham , he appears in the 1901 census , aged 33 , a  coal-miner living in the ecclesiastical parish of Tanfield St Margaret with a wife and three children .
I have been unable to contact any of his granchildren .keep trying ,yours Daphne .

That's very interesting - the painting is called 'In a Wood, Taverham'. I'm not sure if this will help. Thanks for your reply.

The Robert Mallett referred to here was my G grandfather.  I have a number of his paintings and would like to know more about him, his ancestry and more about his descendants as it was a very hard thing to extract from my late grandmother.

He had an issue with alcohol and this is probably why no one wanted to talk about him very much!
