OAKLEY - CENSUS LOOK UP 1841 to 1891
« on: Wednesday 16 August 06 19:05 BST (UK) »
OAKLEY, ROBERT CHARLES  (Painter)  married Mary Paterson 1849, Clapham, Surrey.   When/Where was he born.?

Known siblings:
Caroline Elizabeth Oakley born 1849, St.Mary, Lambeth, Surrey.
Sarah Eliza born 1852, Kennington, 1st Part, Lambeth, Surrey.
George Reid Oakley, born 1858, Lambeth, Surrey.

There was another son Abraham William Oakley born 1860 (My Gt:Grandfather) married Mary Ann Pretty 1879 in Lambeth.  I have their details and have found them on the 1881 and 1901 Census.

I have not been able to find the main family on any Census.  Did Robert Charles Oakley turn his name around like his son Abraham William did.
On all census Abraham is down as William.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kate.

Pretty - London

Hi Tanja,          :)

Thank you so much for your speedy reply - I am so grateful to you.

It seems that I have mislaid Caroline but have found siblings I knew nothing about.  This will give me a lot to go on.   I can now also search for a
further Gt:Gt:Grandfather who I see did change his name around and also aged differently from the rest of the family.

Thanks again.

1841, the Paterson family.
HO 107/1064/2 15 23
St. Mary Newington (Lambeth)
William St.
George Paterson, 45, Gardener
Sarah, 35
George, 13
Mary, 10
Ann, 7
Eliza, 2
Sarah White, 20, FS
(all b. Surrey)

George Paterson m. 16 Jan 1826 St. Mary Newington, Surrey, to Sarah White; I wonder if the younger Sarah/Sarah Ann White may be an daughter from a first marriage.  There's a possible Sarah Ann White d. o. James White and Sarah Merrit, b. 30 Jul 1824 c. 22 Aug 1824 Holy Trinity, Clapham, and James White m. Sarah Merrit 19 Aug 1822 St. Mary Newington.

Marriage certificate of Robert Charles and Mary would help pin down the Oakleys - I see a possible in Lambeth in 1841 but he's apparently at some sort of school + away from family so hard to tell if it's the right one.

Hi Tanja and jorose

WOW!!!!!!!   Thank you for all the information you have found for me, I am so grateful.

William and family in Moat Street, Battersea in 1891 is mine - the son George being my Grandfather.  Fortunately I have their details.

I had nothing on the Paterson family and very little on the Robert Charles Oakley.
I do have the Marriage Certificate of Robert Charles Oakley to Mary Paterson.
Robert Charles Oakley (Full age) Bachelor.  Painter.  Born Clapham.
Father: Robert Charles Oakley - Cabinet Maker.
Mary Paterson (Full age)  Spinster.  Born: Clapham.  Father George Paterson Gardener.
They were married on the 30th April 1849 at the Parish Church, Clapham, Surrey.

Thanks to you I can now start looking for their Births and hopefully get in touch with Lambeth to obtain copies of Baptisms/Birth for Robert Charles Oakley and Mary Paterson as they were pre 1837.

Best wishes to you both...........Kate     :)       :)        :)        :)
