Hello Redcoat
I think your castle is from Never Never land. It's south of the Land of Make Believe.
It's a nice picture though.

Any clue who painted it??

Sometimes you can find out the where it is, if you know who painted it. :)

I don't know who painted it.....on the purchase certificate....it says....
1805 Aquatint.......aquatint is just another name for a water colour....I bought a few of them and none of them were signed.....they were purchased while on holiday in the UK  (Brighton art store).......

Hi Redcoat,
An aquatint is a form of print, not a watercolour.  It's relating to the technique of etching.
If they are true aquatints then they will show a plate mark around the edges - this looks like a little impressed "frame" in the paper, where the etched plate was pressed into the paper as it printed.
Having said all that, I have no idea where the castle is  :-\  ;D  but I hope you find out, one way or the other.
Cheers
Prue

Hi Redcoat,

I'd try posting it on a Medieval interest website. To my untrained eye it doesn't look like a Scottish castle, my guess if it does exist, is continental.
