Hello all,

MR - don't know how you got on trying to find the BEALE family later?  I struggled with most of them, but did find Thomas

1851 census HO107/1695/395/25

Thomas S BEALE H M 34 - landed proprietor - Salop ?Leintwardine

Wife Elizabeth, children (Walter S 4, Eliz 1)
Address: 1 Gl Cottages, New Windsor with Dedworth

1861/1871/1881 Clarence Villas, Clewer, Berkshire

Unfortunately he doesn't seem to have visitors!  At least this identifies a place of birth for him - but it doesn't mean that the others in 1841 were born in the same place & therefore doesn't entirely rule out the 1841.  It does suggest that BEALE was the correct spelling for this family, if not for Mom's Constantia.

I have only ever ordered one will (from Scotlandspeople) mainly cos my lot were too poor, but it would be interesting to read Constantia's!

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

I struggled to find them too - spotted a possible death for Octavia, but nothing definite.  I don't think they're the right family, but still can't see any real possibilities for Constantia on the 1841.

I wonder if you have seen this - ages a bit out!

IGI birth

Constantia Walton BILL

b 3 Feb 1790
Bap 1790 St Michael's, Stone, Stafford

Parents Robert & Sarah

Siblings

Mary Perks BILL bap 25 Aug 1784
Eliza BILL bap 1785
Sarah Anne BILL bap 1786

The pity of this is that they are all girls, so unlikely to be found on censuses, particularly due to their advancing years...

Aaranroots
Thank you the information you have provided is superb this is the family that I am looking for looking at the IGI information.

I can now try to look through census to see if Constantia is visiting siblings.

I have also found that the name Constantia varies with each record.

Hi there,

My name is Ellie and I am a Researcher on the Channel 4 Series, the Restoration Man. We have been following the restoration of a former Flint Mill, located on Mill Street in Stone, Staffordshire.

From c1759-1818 it was owned by a Robert Bill - I wonder whether this is the father of the Constantina Walton Bill you have been researching? We are looking to find out as much as possible about the Bill family of Stone, we'd be particularly interested in speaking to any descendants - have you had any joy in tracking them down?

To give you some further information, a collection of letters found in a house in Stone in the 1780s indicate that Robert Bill was involved not only in the buying, grinding and selling of flint for the potteries, but the supply of a host of other materials; coal, stone, clay, cotton wool and ale.

A date stone on the large neighbouring water mill (now the Mill Restaurant and Hotel) indicates that in 1795 Robert Bill moved over to corn milling. It is understood that from then on he ran the corn mill by day and the flint mill by night. In 1818 the mill changed hands and became under the ownership of Thomas Dawson – it is unclear whether this was on account of Bill’s death.

Any help you could give me with this would be fantastic. Do feel free to contact me on (*)

Hi Ellie

Welcome to Rootschat! :)

Although this topic is quite old, luckily the original poster has been online recently, so she should be able to contact you with an update. Unfortunately we don't allow email addresses to be posted but she can still send you a personal message. This works best after you've posted a few times, so if you want to reply to this, that counts as one!

Have you got access to genealogical records yourself - thinking in terms of probate for Robert etc?

Usually the reason people are asking questions on Rootschat is because they ARE a descendant - so we'll wait with bated breath. Make sure you let us know & if Rootschat gets a namecheck on the programme, we'd be delighted!

Kind regards, Arranroots :)

Hiya,

Thank you for the speedy response! I've only looked into Robert Bill in relation to his flint activities - no genealogical records yet.

We'd love to track down a descendant of his - fingers crossed! Other than waiting on this, could you perhaps suggest any alternative ways I might be able to find them?

Best,
Ellie

Tracing people forward in time to find descendants is always trickier than going backwards but it can be done. Oddly enough, due to privacy regulation, it is often the most recent few years that are the hard part.

One suggestion would be to look at online family trees to see whether there are any with the chap in question on them - and approach the owner. You can do this on sites such as Ancestry and Genes Reunited, as well as simply using a search engine. If you find one that fits, it is a question of approaching the owner for the information you need.

Or you can ask nice Rootschatters to see whether they can help!

Just having a quick look to see whether I can spot anything helpful.

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
