William, I have made a note of your family names in this area & wondered (if you're not from hereabouts yourself) whether you know that Stoke-on-Trent is in the "top corner" of Staffordshire? It is very close to the Cheshire border (about 2 miles from where I live) & Nantwich is not far into Cheshire. Shropshire is, likewise, very close by... I've made a note of your family names in those places - but alas, I don't know when I'll be in Northern Wales... my relations were in the South!

Thanks,my Conway relatives from Flint Flintshire first settled in the Mow Cop area soon after 1850,spreading also to Stoke-on-Trent itself and also to the Congleton/Crewe areas. All the Staffordshire names I have come from the marriage of my Grandparents Sarah M.M. Conway and Joseph Durber at Bagillt Flintshire in 1913.

Mow Cop  :D :D !! Lovely!! I can see the folly from my house! My partner is working up there tonight!

It's practically part of Stoke-on-Trent!

The border of Cheshire & Staffordshire actually runs through Mow Cop... it's tricky doing youth work up there, because various regional grants have cut-off zones & each thinks the other county should be covering the village on the border!
