Hi,

Have purchased a book on the Anzacs and Volunteers of Toowoomba and Darling Downs which give a brief record of their War Service, some of the names include photos, headstones and newspaper articles, below are a list of names mentioned in the book , if you think there is someone of interest I would be happy to forward on the information.

Dear Members,

This person who ultimately gave his life, was apparently missed from the publication of the Darling Downs ANZACs due to his Victorian place of enlistment. 

He and his wife owned property at Warra, near Dalby on the northern Darling Downs, when he was killed at
Villers-Bretonneux at the Somme.
 
He also served during the Boer War.

               Corporal SAMPSON BURTON GADD
                          9th Bn., Australian Infantry, A.I.F
                  who died aged 38 on Sunday, 23rd July 1916.

  Corporal GADD was the son of Thomas and Agnes Gadd; husband of Eliza Gadd, of Warra, Queensland. Born at Toongabbie, Victoria.
                               Remembered with honour
             VILLERS-BRETONNEUX MEMORIAL, Somme, France.
                                In the perpetual care of
                   the Commonwealth War Graves Commission

Although this is some time since your message but I have just discovered your message after doing a goggle search.  In your message you mention a Herbert Kause who was my husbands grandfather.  We have a little information about him but would like more.  Can you tell me where your info come from and is there an actual grave stone with his name on it.  Any other info about him would be helpful, even photos.

Thomas Edward [Ned] ADAMS

Enlisted in the 1st AIF 7th Battery and was a member of the ORIGINAL  "ANZAC" Landing Force on 25 April 1915 in the 2nd AIF Garrison Battalion.

Travelled to WW1 on the "RANGATIRA"  was with the 27th Batallion embarking on 25 September 1914.There was a commemorative Programme with photos.

A Roll of Honour to the World War I, Warra and District members, formerly in the Warra Post Office is now displayed in the Hall opposite.

Warra is a Darling Downs township 70 miles to the west of Toowoomba

Hi Pamela,

The book I have is called "Some Toowoomba and Darling Downs Anzacs" I have had a look for you and  along with the information there is also a photo of him in his uniform, although quite dark still a very nice photo and there also looks like there may be a headstone, I'm unable to read the inscription but the photo is placed beside Herberts information. If you send me a PM with your email address I will be more than happy to send what I have.

Also did a quick search on the National Archives of Australia website and found Herberts war records which you may already be aware of, if you haven't already you can send away for a copy of his records which may give you further information.

My wife and I are off to Gallipoli in April; as part of that trip I have been doing some research into a particular Digger who was born in Tewantin - Bertie Leland Pumfrey

The research I have been doing is part of the Adopt a Digger project, trying to detail Diggers that were sent from the Sunshine Coast in 1914.

Just wondering if you have any additional information that I can contribute to the website?

Next thing I wish to mention........      A lot of the vets for WW1 came from the Church of England Preparatory School and the memorial board was something we students passed everyday.

Someone mentioned Warra ...... well that brings back memories too.....   

The surviving diggers and families used to have service in the PArk just near Margaret and Ruthren Streets and they used to march in the Carnival of Flowers.....  I have them on film somewhere, and some old slides of the march through Stanthorpe in the 1950s.......

As a young fella at school in those days we all learnt to march, and fire 245s....  the old ranges became our tennis practice walls,   and the old bomb shelters were everywhere along the top of Weir Park along to the lookout........

There was a magazine done by PREP called Prep Times that used to mention all the kiddies who were killed in the WWs...   there was also a memorial board at TGS and Downlands, but I never saw the one at Downlands....      there are a few town monoliths around the place.......

I was also fortunate to go to one of the festivals in Warwick one year and see some of the diggers march but I cant remember when.......
