« on: Tuesday 08 August 06 10:19 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm looking for information about the family of Roderick Williams and Mary Thomas (mid 1700's). Their daughter married Hugh Jones of Tynyddol, Maenan.

Hi Ieuan,

I went through the Parish records for Llanddoged last night, but there was nothing that really fits.

I found a burial for a Roderick William on Nov 6 1799 (Garthmyn, Trefaenan)

Also there was a Roderick Williams who witnessed a marraige between Griffith Thomas and Elizabeth Roberts on 22 Oct 1766.

Otherwise there is no other Roderick named, neither baptism nor marriage.

As for Elizabeth - as you can imagine, there are several entries for this name.

- a burial on 31st October 1805, d/o J. (I therefore assume that this Elizabeth was not married, otherwise she would not be "daughter of John")
- a marraige on 27.05.1827 to Thomas Roberts
- a marriage on 24.01.1829 to Owen Jones

I could find no suitable reference to their daughter Elizabeth, nor Hugh Jones.

Depending on where they lived in Llanddoged, they may well have attended Church in Llanrwst. This will also be relevant as Hugh was from Maenan. I also have the PRs on microfilm. Will check them out at the weekend and let you know.

In the meantime, if you could be a bit more specific with the time frame, it would help a lot. From which source did you get the names?

The Roderick Williams who died 1799 is probably the right one. Mary his wife died in 1766 aged 38. It's possible if they were about the same age that he died in in his 60's or 70's.

Tynyddol is on the main road into Llanrwst, so it's possible that Hugh Jones went to a different church.

Regards
