Birth record - Doris Baker
« on: Sunday 06 August 06 12:31 BST (UK) »
Could anyone please help me find the birth record for a Doris Winifred Baker born 7/8/1922? (this was my nan)

I've searched for ages but just can't find it.  I have her death record - she died as Doris Winifred Chapman aged 74 (Henley Berks) Reg 28B Entry 290.

What I really want to know is her mother's maiden name so was trying to locate her entry in the registers so that I could request her birth certificate.

Her father's name was Frederick James Baker and she grew up in Reading, Berkshire.

Any help would be gratefully received as have spent so long searching but to no success.

Thanks Katie

Hi Katie,

Perhaps a red herring, but there is a Winifred D Baker registered in the September quarter 1922 at Reading, mother's maiden name Ford...

Thanks Tanja.

I will let you know if it turns out to be the right one.

Just one thing, can you help decipher the reference - I think it is 2 o 693

Cheers for your help, much appreciated.

Hi Katie.

It's necessarily 2c for sure (2 o doesn't exist). I'd go for 693 as well  :)

Tanja

Is it possible for you to do a quick check on a Stanley Baker born 7 June 1928?

If the maiden name is also Ford then this is probably my nan's brother.

Another brother could be Maurice George D Baker born 21 Aug 1925? Again finding the ref and maiden name could esablish the connection to Doris/Winifred Baker.

Cheers

Katie

Hi Tanja

Thanks for the link - I've been using ancestory all afternoon but got a bit lost on the site as been searching the marriage section and then deaths section for ages.  When I tried to go back to the births I couldn't find the right search option.  It's been long day and I've been searching so many records I think I need a break!

As for the Maurice - I think it's the wrong person as he should be older not younger than my nan (according to my Dad).  The other one Stan doesn't link in either but is about the right year.  It's so frustrating as they must be there somewhere.

The only info I have is:

Maisie (oldest), Mod (aka Maurice), Fred, Doris Winifred? (b. 7/8/1922) Betty, Stan (youngest)

Doris Winifred? Baker dad is Frederick James Baker.

I've searched marriage records from 1922 back to 1905 but none tie up with Ford and only other maiden names I have are Green and Williams.

I've tried finding death certs for Doris Winifred's siblings but could only find the two I've told you about.

What information is on the death certificate? Does it give the mother's details?

Any other ideas on what I could do now would be gratefully received!

Katie

Death certs don't give much information at all.

Have a look here:

Tanja  :)

Have you found any marriage for Frederick James Baker?

The one tricky thing with the indexes is that the birth registration gives the mother's maiden name. In case the mother was a widow, she wouldn't have married in her maiden name, but in her name from previous marriage...

Please ask your father again to try and remember when his uncles died...  :P
