Thank you to everyone who has helped with their advice. I've followed it too and it's been very helpful. I get the feeling it will be a thread to be referred back to in the future also.
My virtual memory problem which occurred on my laptop was on startup and recommended an increase in the size of the pagefile. After doing that a few times with no change was when I backed up my stuff and returned the hard drive to new. I now know that if it happens again I'll come and check what is in my start up that I can get rid of since presumably that must have been what was causing it. Still no harm was done.
What would we do without our techies on here, thanks a bunch all
