Hi Ambers,

Do you have access to census?
Have a look at HO107/2473 352 36

I'd put my money on them.

Tanja  :)

PS Why do you say remarriage?

Well ... formerly Jones means that her maiden name was Jones. Chances are high that she married between the date of the census and the birth of the child.

Possibly September 1851 Carmarthen XXVI 711  ???

Hi Tanja,

So that rules out the Davies family in St Peter street, and makes her maiden name Elizabeth  Jones?

Birth Certificate for Thomas Jones Davies says mother:
Eliza Davies formerly Jones.

So the lead is the family he was with in 1861, his grandmother Elizabeth Jones 55,  might have had a daughter named Elizabeth who was not living with them.

I did wonder if he was illegitimate because formerly can be a name you are known by from what I understand. ???

Not sure we are talking about the same family  ???

The family I had spotted were the Jones family headed by Elizabeth, widow, publican. With her, a daughter Eliza, another daughter Martha and a daughter Selina.

'Formerly' is the usual way of saying 'maiden name' on certs.

As for 1861, there is a likely candidate family at St Peters, Dame Street. Little daughter is called Selina Jane.

Sorry our posts crossed, and we weren't talking about the same family......that's why I thought he might have been illigitimate. ???

Now I know I should be looking for a Jones family....Elizabeth Jones, Publican with daughter Elizabeth sounds right.

I know I have seen an Elizabeth Jones School teacher in one of my searches. Hopefully as  Selina  Jones was a teacher in the 1861 where he was with his grendmother it will run in the family :D
.
Many thanks for your help and tolerance with a newbie.
