Rob I was under the impression that it was part of melton hall, but after your post I did some checking and it looks as though I am wrong so please everyone accept my apologies. And thanks Rob for askink - hopefully before too much time was wasted.

Hi Thanks for all the info and the link to the Hickleton site, I found it of great interest. I don't think the John Bailey in the 1891 census, that KLM kindly looked up for me, is mine, although I think the one from the Electorial records is. I looked the one up born in Clifton, Yorks, in 1901 and found him still as a footman, but at a different address. My John was born 1870 in Kirby Stephen, Westmorland, however he put Manchester as his birthplace in 1901, where his address was Hickleton Hall. This family has been a complete nightmare, they have been listed in different census under names Bell, Bayliff, Bailiffe and Bailey, which the name then stayed. I have not been able to find a birth index for John or his two brothers, whom were born in North Shields and Blackpool, I always thought families didn't do that much travelling back then, but they have definately proved me wrong. KLM could you please tell me, on the Electorial
registers, I don't suppose it said if his wife Alice was with him did it?
Many thanks for all your replies, best wishes, Jean

Nope.  Mum lived close by all her life and she has never heard of it.  Need to look into it more but I do wonder if it has been changed or is indeed in Hickleton
