Hi Monica And Joe,
Thanks for the help, as this is a real Brickwall.
I will try to contact the Watt Library and find out if they have poor relief applications for the period 1851 to 1861.
On the 1851 census it is showing Elizabeth as 43 but she was apparently born around Oct. 31, 1815.
Also, Where is Archibald at the time of the census?
On the 1861 census, Ann is 44 but on the 1851 census she is 23 and William is 29 as he was born in 1822. William is in a poorhouse on the 1861 census and the 3 boys are in a ragged school at the same time.
It's William's poor relief application I really need to get all the relevant info on him, Ann and the 3 boys.
I have a copy of the 1851 census for William and Mary and the 2 boys thanks to the Paisley Town Council.
Since Elizabeth doesn't appear on the 1861 census of Greenock , I wonder if she had moved away or emigrated to possibly Canada possibly giving the reason young William moves to Canada Then again, where is Archibald?
Also, where is William and Mary's daughter Mary who was bapt. July 13, 1818 ?
It looks like William Sr. has died by 1851 if Mary is now the head of the family. I haven't been able to find Mary on the 1861 census either so she may have died as well by now. Therefore it is possible they may be buried in a Greenock cemetery. This could be another search in the making.
Isn't genealogy fun?
