My North Riding Surname Interests

I am researching the following names in and around Old Malton and would like to hear from anyone who has any of these names in their trees.

Clarkson; Hick; Hood; Medd; Milner (associated with Medd, Hick and Hood) ; Nelson (associated with Clarkson); Nendick

I am also interested in finding out more about a Robert Smith Smith who was born c.1787 at Marton and who married a Mary Bearcroft at Old Malton in 1828.  Robert farmed at Thorpe Bassett until some time after the 1851 census.  He subsequently moved to Scagglethorpe where he died in 1859.  His daughter, Sarah (born c.1830) married a William Thorpe (son of William and Elizabeth Thorpe) in 1865.

Thank you.  Yes, I have and I haven't yet worked out how the families are connected.  I have at least two Nendick links in my tree.  The one is a Matthew Nendick (born 1831, Old Malton, son of William Nendick and Hannah Kellington) married Mary Medd (born 1835, Wykeham, daughter of John Medd and Ann Hardcastle).  John Medd is my 2 x great uncle.  His wife, Ann Hardcastle was a daughter of John Hardcastle and Mary Nendick.

I have John HOOD born 1817 Ryton marrying Ann HICK born 1820 (married 1841 St Michael New Malton)

One of their sons married into my ETHELL family.

Hello Trevor,

My connection to the Hood family is a distant one and I would be interested to know how - if at all - John Hood is related.  My 4 x great grandfather was a Richard Milner (baptised 4 Nov 1744, Old Malton; died 6 Dec 1824, Old Malton).  His parents were John Milner (birth year unknown; died 8 Mar 1788, Old Malton) and Mary Hood (bapt 4 Mar 1722, Old Malton; died 20 Nov 1761, Old Malton).  Mary was a child of Richard Hood and Mary Luccock.  On 5 Mar 1766, Richard Milner married Eleanor (Ellen) Hick (bapt. 28 Apr 1740 at New Malton; died 30 Mar 1824, Old Malton daughter of Thomas Hick and Mary Kendray).

From the info you have at the moment I cant see any connection with my HOOD family or the HICK's.  I don't go back that far.

I am tracking a William Clarkson (born 1787, Norton and died 1843, Old Malton) who married a Hannah Smith (born c.1792, Thorpe Bassett and died 1835, Old Malton). Their children (all baptised at Old Malton) were - Frances (bapt 1818) who married a Richard Milner; Elizabeth (bapt 1820) Mary (bapt 1821) married a George Shepherd (bapt. 1823, Rillington cum Scampston); William (bapt 1823) married Jane Linskill; Thomas (bapt 1824) married an Ann Smith (daughter of Richard Smith and Judith Hopper.  Judith Hopper was from Wintringham); John (bapt 1827) who married Mary Piercy (bapt 1832, New Malton).

Do any of these names appear amongst the Clarksons you are researching?
