Hi!

A wonderful site for Arklow, Co Wicklow, is  below, it has the census for Arlow for 1901 and 1911 on, and there is entries of birth, marriages and deaths.   Maybe worth a look.

Good Luck

Think we have a connection somewhere.   My wife is a granddaughter of James Byrne.   Have a little more information that I could give you.

Hi. I'm looking for a Byrne who married Mary Roche(/Roach/Roach) and had a daughter Maria Byrne born c1857 in Wicklow. Mary was widowed and left Ireland with Maria. They came to Birkenhead, Cheshire, where Mary remarried. Maria named her stepfather on her marriage cert so I don't know her real father's first name. Mary's father was "John Roche, shoemaker."
Cheers, Trish
Quinn, Kildare and Birkenhead.
Dowling, Tullow Carlow.
Roche/Roach/Roache, Wicklow.
Byrne/Byrnes/Byrns, Wicklow and Birkenhead.
Roche/Byrne marriages.

My mothers   sister  Nellie conway   became  a  Byrne  through Marriage  he was a James,   but  sadly  i dont  have any dates.     all those  things  i could  have asked  when my mother was alive.        they  lived in  Dunlavin Co Wicklow. had  quite  a few daughters   i have  wrote  many times   but no answers to the letters.   but i do  have a photo.    I do remember  my mother  saying there was a Bishop Byrne.  so maybe   you could  contact the Catholic Church.

I  am  not researching  this   surname.    but  i am doing conway.

I have just discovered a Frances (Fanny) Byrne in my family tree - she was married to Patrick Carroll in Avoca, Wicklow in Jan 1816 - children of marriage were Sarah Carroll b. 1816 (Avoca) , Michael Carroll b. 1818 (Arklow), Anne and Sally Carroll b.1828 (Wicklow) possibly twins and another Sally b. 1832 (Wicklow). On the baptism certs for these children are godparents one named Maria Byrne and another Bridget Byrne.

Hi,

My grandfather John Byrne came from Ireland (not sure which part). He married and had four sons in Salford. Tommy, George, Francis, Wilfred. The only one still alive is my father. They had some 'Doyle's' as cousins and I think there may be a few left somewhere around the Manchester area. Hope that helps.....

I have a Daniel O'Byrne but on some Docs he is Byrne. Born in 1857or59 depending on the Census he has filled in. He married Jane Hayes in Westland Row  RC in 1880. His parents were Peter and Elizabeth  and in 1880 he was living in sandwith Place in Dublin. Neither his parents marriage or his birth is recorded in St Andrews WR. So it has been suggested that they were not from that area. The family story passed down is that they were supposed to be from Glenmalure and they owned or had share in sand mines in that area. Anyone know of such mines or have these Byrnes in their tree. He was a wealthy man until his wife died and he drank his fortune away. He died in 1944 and is buried in glasneven . I am trying to find where he came from.

If you visit "Halpin family of Wicklow", page 4, you'll find a newspaper extract there about a visit Gladstone made to the area - it contains the words "...Mr Byrne, one of Lord Powerscourt's tenantry..." That may be a reference to your ancestor. There are 2 references to other Byrnes elsewhere on the site, which may be useful to you.  Cheers.
