MC's - are they always Gazetted?

I have a relative by marriage who was given the Military Cross during WW1 (but I'm unsure as to whether or not it was posthumous). The award is confirmed in his listing on the CWGC site, but interrogation of the London Gazette archives comes up with nothing to support it. A surviving nephew of his would very much like to know the circumstances of the award.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed - does it involve an MoD  Records trawl?

It should be in the gazette, but it is notoriously hard to find things.

Post the details and i will have a look, i know a few tricks.

Second Lieutenant Frederick Thomas Edwards
                                MC
8th Bn., The King's (Liverpool Regiment)
who died age 33
on 20 October 1918
Son of etc....................
Tournai Communal Cemetary

I don't have his number or anything other than this. I wonder if he was commisioned in the field as he seems a little old to be a 2nd Lt?!

Thanks again for assist. I have seen references to medal cards before on this site but now it seems that I need to go & do some reading up!

I'll post further when that's done & when I've tackled the download-probably tomorrow!

i suspect he was, SDGW lists him as Temp. 2nd Lt and his medal card lists him as a private ( probably for his 14/15 star)

I could not find him in the Gazette either.

but it is notoriously hard to find things.

When he reached the objective he found his platoon had been reduced to five men, and his flanks were all covered, but he held on to his position with gallantry and determination, and only when in imminent dansfer of being completely surrounded he retired, contesting every yard of ground.
