MANZELLA (or variants) Look up please

I would like to trace the ancestry of Alvina Mary Ann MANZELLA born about 1854 in St Helier
From 1861 she lived in Hastings/St Leonards on Sea Sussex as niece to Henry and Mary Ann PARKS. On census records her name is written or transcribed variously as Eliza MANZELL, Elvina MANYELL, Alirna MANGELL and Alvina MANGELLA but at time of death in 1928, her name was Alvina Mary Ann MANZELLA
 
In 1851 Henry PARKS' wife is listed as  Mary b 1820 Jersey but by 1861 his wife is Mary Ann b 1820 Exeter Devon
 
Any help would be appreciated

In 1841 and 1851, theres a MANZELL (sic) family in St Helier - headed by an Anthony, an Italian National - profession is Painter in 1841 ...

His wife is a Mary, and a daughter Mary born c1820 ... 2 other daurs as well.. Adelize - 1838 and Ann 1826

In 1851 he has remarried to a 26 year old Caroline and theres also a grandchild in the household, but only the daughter Mary from the 1841 family - she is shown as married, but retains the Manzell surname ......

The grandchild is Celena Le Maistre aged 6 ...

Address was 2, Mulcaster St ...

For your lass b1854, either theres an older son around, or Mary has another child .... you need the BMDS to see a bit more - and also check out the granddaughter's lineage ...

It might be worth obtaining this highly probable Marriage Cert for Henry Parks - not all female names have been transcribed, so sadly we cant immediatly see who Mary was ... but for £7.00 from the GRO it should give you her maiden name and her fathers name - and hopefully a link back to the Chan Isles and Your lass ...

Henry is consistent thru the census years in Hastings .... so its a good chance its him - you could make the order conditional on his Fathers name - Newton Parks (a butcher)

Thank you for your very quick and helpful responses. I had picked up the possible connection with Anthony Manzell but had not seen all the interesting details
Obviously the way ahead initially is via the bmds for the girls. Have you advice on how to access these?

CI BMDs arent online - but I see that previous queries have been helped by lookups - post the request on the relevant CI Board ?

I seem to recall that Civil REgn wasn't until 1840ish tho ...... I'd still recommend that marriage cert to unravel just who the 1st wife Mary - born St Helier according to the 1851 - is !

I also noticed the baptism for Adaliza Orianna MANZELL on 8 July 1838, fille de Anthony Manzell et Mary Mourant 
[It is normal to use the mother's maiden name even though she is married].
(godparents: pere et Mary Anne Mansell)

I will try to find the parents' marriage next time I visit the archives - which should give more info on their parents etc.

Thank you for your detailed information on Alvina Manzella and by obtaining the two certificates which have been advised I should be able to crack a long term family mystery!

I noted that Anthony Manzell/a's occupation is given as painter and I wondered whether this should be interpreted as a house painter or as an artist?

Hi Helen -

I couldn't say what sort of 'painter'.

Please note that civil registration in Jersey did not start until 1842, so you will not be able to get a certificate for Adaliza in 1838.  However, the advantage is that the basptisms are all transcribed up to 1842, so that's why I can give the parents names from the parish register.

You could still order Alvina's certificate.
