I have looked again, ;D and I think another interpretation is Henery.  It might sound unlikely, Thats what I though but I went and put the name into free BMD and there were a few listings of  'George Henery'.

Do you know where he was born?
Boyle, Co. Leitrim  Boyle, Co. Tyrone, Shaughnessy, Co. Limerick, and  Manchester, UK.  Pope, Cheshire. Chadwick, Speke, Lancs.  Frankish, Hunmanby, Yorks.  Brindley, Audley, Staffs and  Middlesex.

Dave  :)  everyones suggestions look possible to me too

griz  :  Thank you for your input
I checked on the Canadian Archives soldiers of the 1st World War site again
A few HENERY's but no George
Tried HENEY no luck
There are 27 George HENRY 's

No idea where he was born.  I 'might'   ???  have found the other two chaps in the photo.
'If'   I have them correct
Bert Osborn was 5ft 1 and born in Farnham Surrey
and  Allan Marcotte being 5ft 5 born in Ontario Canada.
Their heights seem to fit in with the picture.

They all joined the Army at different times, so no clue there.
Granddad was born in England and has put his age as two years older than he actually was.  He is on the Canadian 1911 Census in Battleford Saskatchewan .   Worked in Prince Albert Saskatchewan as a Lumberjack for a time.   He went back to England to marry Nan.

Thanks again and if I get anywhere, I will post on here.

Thank you Dave  :)

I found Granddads demobilization papers.
He enlisted in the '8th Draft Railway Construction '
Canadian Expeditionary Force Toronto.
Served in France and Belgium.
Signed by the Issuing Office - OC No 2 District Depot Toronto

So that might turn out to be a help?  Will let you know.

Oh, bother I have racked my brain for hours with this one!...
getting this back to the top so that it can drive everyone crazy once again...
maybe try scanning in the whole back so that the handwriting can be deciphered
from more letters......
My first impression was Plervers/Plevery...but after staring at it for way too
long...I am starting to see a comma rather than a letter...  Heron,  Pleven,
Plevon, Hevor, Heven, ...Don't bother checking...I already tried 9 million combinations...
There are a few George Heron.
I even thought it could be Ll as a beginning...Tried all the maybes with $
Ibr$...Ile$..Pl$.....oh, yes...the mind goes... :-\

The Henery looks good if it's an "H"....If it was Henry and the "e" was added
by mistake...or he may have used his middle name...which is another possibility...

Here's a funny thing, tho....Reyz... my hubby is from Prince Albert! J.J.  :D

Hi JJ   :)

Many thanks for your efforts

I have a picture of Granddad working as a lumberjack in Prince Albert.

Looking at GD's  Canadian stuff yesterday and there two books of postage stamps,  2 dollars each.    On the back of one of them he had written in pencil 'Winnipeg' ....  is he trying to help me 80+ years later?

Hi Annie  :)

Many thanks too, that is great!  We have to go out soon but will have a good look later.
I thought George was rather nice too  ;).  Have a large group picture and he is in that too.

I made contact with two MARCOTTE researchers but they did not have an Allan.  However they are going to keep an eye out.

Thanks again Ladies
