Hi,  I am unable to trace the parents of Richard and Martha Ashbolt/Ashpole, they  are as far back as I  can go.   I am also their descendant via the marriage of their daughter Martha to William Peppiatt/Peppit in 1753.

I would be most interested in having the names and dates of birth of all of Richard and Martha's children if you have that information.  I have Robert baptised 13 Sept 1724, Sharnbrook; Martha baptised 9 october 1726, Sharnbrook; Sarah baptised 23 January 1830, Sharnbrook and Thomas baptised 14 November 1731, Sharnbrook.

cheers, marp

Many thanks for this.  I see that you may have the marriage date (or the year) of the marriage of Richard Ashbolt to Martha.  Could you let me have this information please?  (also Martha's full name).

I had reached a dead end with Richard and Martha Ashpole so any information is useful to me. I trace my ancestry back through Martha Ashpole (born 1726) who I believe married William Peppiatt on 31 January 1753.

As for spelling, well I suppose it was not standardised. For example, Peppiatt went through many changes to Peppit/ Pettit.  I looked at the Sharnbrook PR and  the baptism records of the 10 children in one family ranged from Pettitt/ Pettit/Peppit/Peppitt.  What amazed me was the handwriting on the baptismal records was that of the same person, they were inconsistent.

Thanks again,  marp

Many thanks once again for this information.  It has really helped me fill in some gaps.  I think you have done wonderfully well in tracking your ancestry back as far as the early 18th century.

I was fascinated with the anecdote about the family crest!

thanks again you have been a great help

Hi 10519 Peter.

That's a most interesting snippet from your cousin about Richard ASHBOLT/ASHPOLE.  I've been trying to crack his origins myself for some years and have come across several of his current day descendants who can also get no further back than Richard's marriage in Sharnbrook so it would be most enlightening if your cousin has something new to go on.

I know you say you cannot verify it but do you know your cousin's source for the Welsh story?

I'm also aware of more than one set of arms attributed to individuals with the name.  Which arms have you come across?

Hi Barbara!

I found your post from several years ago.

I wonder if we are related?  My mother was Grace Alice Peppitt, and her two brothers Frank and Reginald lived in North London.

Uncle Frank had two children, Frances and Michael, and Uncle Reg one son, Terence.  As you say, no more Williams!

Best wishes

Angela

Barbara -

I've remembered a family photo (don't know where it is now).  It was taken in the garden of my mother's cottage in Norfolk.

I think you must be the daughter of my cousin Terence Peppitt?  You must be my second cousin!

I don't know how else to get in touch with you, but hello!
