I am looking for a William Petit and his wife Martha, parents of william, Thomas and John.   I do not know where they may be located or any dates.  Certainly Thomas was baptised in Sharnbrook.

One of their sons Thomas Peppiatt (bap. 26 august 1764 in Sharnbrook) married a Rebecca Ashton in Sharnbrook on 12 September 1796 (he was a widower).

I would love to track the Pepit, Peppitt, Peppiatt (and all the spelling variations) family but seemed to have reached the end of the line with Thomas and his wife Rebecca Ashton.
Any links or help  or advice would be appreciated.

Marp,    The IGI has extracted marrage at Puddington (Podington) of William Pepiat to Martha Aspole on 31 Jan 1753.  Have you checked Poddington PR ?

It'll tie in with the 1756 baptism of William.  Note there was also baptism of Eliz daughter of William & Mary Peppiat at Sharnbrook on 22 Dec 1758.

John,  thanks for this.  No I have not looked at the IGI for Podington (?) but I will do so asap!!   Thanks a million, this may help me dismantle this particular brick wall.
Cheers, marp

Interestingly St Peters Church Sharnbrook records the burial of William Peppiat on 3 April 1761 at age 1,  but this does not appear the parish records.

http://www.stpeterssharnbrook.org.uk/
Click on St Peters  (left hand margin) & then click on Monument Index

Conversely other burials in the PR do not appear on their website

Just to throw in two pennyworth!

I remember Lady Peppiatt whose husband I believe was a Govenor of the Bank of England in the early 60's and they lived in Beaconsfield  Bucks.

I also have a Pettitte born 1920 Maidstone Kent and therefore possibly still alive,

Regards, Abiam

John,  I have now done the IGI check and found the marriage of William Peppit/Peppiat to Martha Aspole, so thank you very much for this information.  I also checked the St Peter's church monument inscriptions and found William who died 30/4/1761aged one.  This poses a bit of a problem for me as I have a baptismal record of a William on 10 March 1756 which would make him 5 if he died in 1761.

I suppose this could be the second child called William and the one baptised in 1756 could have died and then the second William also died.

Perhaps the most irritating aspect of all for me is that I researched a lot of this when I was first starting out on family history and I was careless with sources of information.  I have learned my lesson since then!   The baptismal date of 10 March 1756 could have been a Sharnbrook PR or could have been from a family bible I saw many years ago when I visited a very old lady (a Peppitt) on a trip to the Pertenhall area.  I would have no idea where this bible is now.

The search continues!
Thanks again, marp

Marp,   To confirm the Sharnbrook PR does have the baptism of William son of Wm & Martha Pepiat (Pepit in the BT) on Mar 10 1756, although a note against the entry says this may be 1755 as there is difference/confusion between the PR & the BT.

In addition to the burials I listed earlier in this thread there are :-

-   Aug 25 1762  Martha, wife of WM Peppit
-   Jan  27 1766  Cath wife of Wm Peppiat  ***
-   June 11 1770 John son of Wm Peppiat

Also on June 22 1802 Wm Coles of Swineshead married Rebecca Peppiatt (although it is not noted she was a widow)

*** the IGI has marriage of William Peppiat to Cath Hall at Knotting on 11 Sept 1764

Regards John

The Knotting PR marriage says that William Peppiat is from Sharnbrook....

He is the only Peppiat in the Knotting PR.  --- by the way that isn/t Notting Hill
