1851 Census - Huggate KING
« on: Tuesday 18 July 06 14:31 BST (UK) »
Could SKS possibly find Thomas and Ann KING for me in 1851.  They married and had the one child I know of in Huggate so they may be there.

I know Ann was born in 1807 in Huggate.  I don't know any more about Thomas and this is what I am hoping to discover.

Any help much appreciated.

Hello Keith,

Thank you for your post - sorry for the delay in replying I was away for Christmas.

The reason I am interested in Thomas KING is because I believe his daughter Charlotte married my husband's 3x Gr Uncle George ADAMSON.  George's brother Robert ADAMSON was my husband's Gr Gr Grandfather.

At the time of the 1851 census George, Charlotte and their baby son George King ADAMSON were visiting Charlotte's Aunt Mary KING in Warter as was Robert ADAMSON.

Robert ADAMSON went on to marry Annie KING in York in 1855.  Annie was born in 1833 the daughter of John KING and Elizabeth LAMB.

The reason I was following up on Thomas KING and his wife Ann (APPLETON) was to try to establish if there was a connection between his family and that of Robert ADAMSON's wife Annie KING.

I haven't reached a conclusion yet so would be very grateful for any further information you may have on a possible connection.

Apologies for the rather long and complicated answer - I bet you're sorry you asked now  ;D

Hi Keith,

Thank you for looking for the marriage of Charlotte KING and George ADAMSON for me.  I think I have the GRO reference from FreeBMD in Sep Q 1850 Pocklington 23 126 but I have not been able to track it down in parish records either.  I think I have tried Bugthorpe and Huggate without success - I wonder if it was Holme on Splading Moor - I'll check that out sometime.

Their son was born in Kingston upon Hull (according to 1851 census) and there is a birth registration for George King ADAMSON on Mar Q 1851 Sculcoates 22 621 that would fit.

Do you know who Thomas KING's parents were.  I am trying to establish if he could be related to John KING born in Norton in 1810 son of George KING and Ann?

Thank you for your interest.

Hi Pinetree, Thomas's parents were John King and Ann, I do not know any dates. I have just searched the IGI for their marriage and would you believe that from 1750 to 1800 every John King married an Ann so I am no wiser. Regards, Keith.
