1841 + 1861 Census Lookup - SELBY
« on: Thursday 13 July 06 11:20 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to find the Family of John and Eliza SELBY, apparently first found in St. Peter's Parish (1841) with six children. Then in 1861 in St. Nicholas Parish with son John who is listed as a Soldier on furlough from the 60th Rifles.  This info was passed to me by a friend in Minnesota, she got it via an unknown third party, but I have been unable to find or corroborate it.  We are particularly interested in an elusive soldier called John Selby who left England for Canada with his Regiment, the 4th Bat. 60th Rifles, aboard the 'Great Eastern' later in 1861,  and this John may possibly be our missing link.  ???  Jacsel.

Thanks a lot folks.  My contact has now discounted the 1841 census family as the son John appears later with children born in England after 1865, not possible with our John who left England for good in 1861 and stayed in Canada after deserting the regiment!   but the 1861 census entry looks promising.  Jacsel
