Keith

Just got this from my cousin.

......" I have been in touch with the postman who has delivered in Hathersage for 34 years. He says no houses of the names you wanted to his knowledge no Park House or Belle Vue. Sorry couldnt be of more help......"

Well we found one!

Have you looked in the censuses to seek adjacent properties? It might offer clues.

Pete

Pete,
Really, you've been a great help, and I'm looking forward to having a look at Broom Cottage in about 10 days time...
very best wishes,
keith

Pete,
May be duplicating myself a bit, but perhaps this might tidy up this particular thread.  Went to Hathersage this week and got hold of/bought as much of the local literature re the COCKER's that I could.  Broom Cottage I found thanks to your precise directions; and I also discovered Rock House (opposite the pub The Scotsman Pack) and Moorseats, up above the village - both places being at one time lived in by this family.
I'm wondering whether the "Park House" I was enquiring about might have been a mistranscription for "Rock House".  Moorseats was an extra bonus, a lovely mansion, and I suppose an indication of how well they did out of the needle producing (terrible conditions for the people they employed, though, I'm ashamed to say)

Hi Keith

Sorry about the delay in replying, I've been away myself.

Glad to hear the trip was useful.

Best wishes

Hi Keith
I had a chat with my mother last night & she seems to think Park House is could be on Park Edge,
a small lane overlooking the parkland leading to Brookfield Manor

She is still racking her brain over Belle Vue

Hi keith
Just had a look at 1881 & found that Belle Vue is in Outseats, which is on the Bamford side of Hathersage. Aerial view :-

Bournetoride,
Thanks so much for all your help, especially with the whereabouts of Belle Vue.  I did find Moorseats - quite a magnificent house - and also Park House, which is the large house right opposite the pub/inn called The Scotsman's Pack.  The sign giving the name of this house was propped up on a wall nearby, and I almost missed it...
Regards, keith
P.S. Have just reread this thread, and of course the place opposite the pub was indeed "Rock House" - and it's pure speculation on my part that "Park House" might have been mistranscribed as such...

Yes I think you are stretching that one a bit.
Do you know who was living at Park house in 1881?
