1900/1910 census Louisiana
« on: Tuesday 04 July 06 14:48 BST (UK) »
I have a Canderan or Conderan living at 2916 Calhoun Street, New Orleans in 1924. I am trying to get a first name as this is a missing link in the family. The person I am looking for is female, born in Ireland in the second half of the 1880s, but I would be glad of the names of any others in the household. I am not sure if data on a later census is available so I am starting with 1900/1910.

I could not find any name similar to Conderan/Canderan in New Orleans in 1920 or 1930.  I lived on Calhoun St. myself for a brief time - don't remember the number, the southern end, down near Audubon Park.

Thanks for looking. All I have is a sister entering NYC in 1924 who says she is going to stay there with her sister, Mrs Canderan.

There is a Patrick J Canderan, b. 1880, Irish Free State, (fa.) IFS, (mo)Eng and
Esther Canderan, b. 1884? IFS, IFS. Eng who immigrated in 1920 living in Brooklyn, NY, in 1930.  They appear to have married around 1918.  He is a manager of a Brokerage and they have no children.  If you want this transcribed in full, please let me know.  ----Genealiza

That is very interesting, genealiza. There was  a sister Esther born about 1884. I had found a Patrick and Ester (sic) Conderan travelling from Colombia to NYC in Ellis Island records 1921 and wondered if it could be her. It put Patrick as resident in Baranquilla, Colombia and working for a mercantile bank. Both are noted as born in Ardcath which would be right.

I would love a transcription as this may be who I am looking for.

It has been a while but I thought I would pop back to say that this information started me down the correct path. This was indeed the couple I was looking for. I found Esther and Patrick's marriage in Buenos Aires, Argentina of all places. New Orleans and Brooklyn came later obviously, but it was working back which did the trick.
So thanks again!
