Please may I pick some rather more learned brains than my own regarding the above-mentioned gentleman, as he is driving me
CRAZY!!!
Mark CODLING was born in 1820 in West Matfen to Robert William CODLING and Eleanor (nee HARLE). He married Jane MITCHINSON in St Andrew's Newcastle on 22 Feb 1845 giving his address as Blackett Street, Newcastle and occ: Servant. Between then and March 1851, Jane died and I'm trying to trace Mark on the 1851 census. He wasn't with his parents back in Matfen, perhaps he was in Newcastle? I did discover that he married an Amelia WILSON in London only three months later. On their marriage certificate they both gave the same London address, which a very kind soul (Rick) checked for me but to no avail - the likelihood being that it was a boarding house!
How would he have had the resources to skip off to London to get married on a servant's pay?
Would the family he worked for be affluent enough to have a des res in London as well as a pad in Newcastle/Northumberland?
Anyway, he turns up again in 1856 when his and Amelia's son David Wilson CODLING is born in St John Lee, NBL!!
Sorry if this missive is long, but can anyone point out the wood that I'm missing from these huge trees??
Thank you for your patience!!
