i do appreciate your help

Well jenn, it seems you will have to search in the
UK for the birth dates of children of Thomas Adams BAYLEY and Martha SKELTON given that Martha was aged 48, and their youngest child was aged 9, when they migrated to Victoria in
1862 (NOT 1866).
On the 'Lightning' in Jun 1862 at:
http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23were (all on page 6 of the relevant fiche, as you can see for yourself)
BAYLEY T A 46, Martha 48, Cath 17 (do you know anything about a Cath?), Joseph 17, John Hy 14, James 11, Annie 9
and also (all on page 2 of the relevant fiche, as you can see)
BAYLEY Mrs Sarah 40, Ann 18, Frances 15, Emma 13, Sarah 9, Elizth 6, Wm H 3, Mary 1
(is this family related?).
It seems that Lydia BAYLEY and Thomas Adams BAYLEY jnr did not migrate with their parents Thomas Adams BAYLEY and Martha (SKELTON) BAYLEY. Do you know more about them? I see that a Thomas Adams BAYLEY is listed on FreeBMD as having married in the Jun qtr 1863 in Blackburn, Lancashire; is this your Thomas?
We now have:
From the IGI at:http://www.familysearch.orgThomas Adams BAYLEY (father Thomas Adams) married Martha SKELTON (father John) in Heslington, Yorkshire, 4 Jun 1839
Also from FreeBMD at:http://www.freebmd.rootsweb.comA marriage for Thomas Adams BAYLEY is listed, Jun qtr 1839, York, Vol 23, page 569
There is also a marriage for a Martha SKELTON in York in the same quarter but there is an indication that there is something anomalous about it - the page number is given as 519 which is apparently not a page number for York; probably a transcription error of 519 instead of 569.
Known children of Thomas and Martha were:
*Lydia BAYLEY born ca 1840 in England
From http://freecen.rootsweb.com/ Lydia is listed as aged 1 and birthplace England in the 1841 Edinburgh census.
What happened to Lydia?
*Thomas Adams BAYLEY baptized 20 Feb 1842 Edinburgh
From the IGIYou will not find his birth as this was before Statutory Registration was introduced in Scotland (1855). Probably he was born in Edinburgh but you would need to find him on the 1851 or 1861 census to check out his birthplace.
What happened to Thomas?
*Perhaps a Cath BAYLEY born ca 1845?
From the Unassisted Immigrants list on the 'Lightning' in 1862It lists a Cath BAYLEY aged 17.
*Joseph Hater BAYLEY born Cheshire ca 1845
From the Unassisted Immigrants list on the 'Lightning' in 1862It lists a Joseph BAYLEY aged 17
Also from the Victorian Deaths IndexIt lists BAYLEY Joseph Hater, father Thomas Adams, mother Martha SKELTON, died, age 20, born CHES, 1864 #665
*John Henry BAYLEY born ca 1847
From the Unassisted Immigrants list on the 'Lightning' in 1862It lists John Hy BAYLEY aged 14
Also from the Victorian Deaths IndexIt lists BAYLEY Hy Jno, father Bayley Thos Adam, mother Martha SKELTON, died at ARM, age 88, in 1931, #7603
(Incidentally, this is probably Armadale, a suburb of Melbourne; note the spelling)
*James Molineux BAYLEY born ca 1851
From the Unassisted Immigrants list on the 'Lightning' in 1862It lists James BAYLEY 11
And from FreeBMDIt lists James Molineux BAYLEY, birth Jun qtr 1850, Leeds Yorkshire, Vol 23, page 533.
*Annie Christina BAYLEY born ca 1853
From the Unassisted Immigrants list on the 'Lightning' in 1862It lists Annie BAYLEY 9
And from FreeBMDIt lists Annie Christina BAYLEY, birth Mar qtr 1853, Liverpool Lancashire, Vol 8b, page 159
Let's hope someone can look up the other Victorian Indexes for the above peopleGood luck,
JAP
