Hello Geoff
thankyuou ever so much for replying to my message it is appreciated.
the Dorunda arrived in Brisbane on the 16th jan 1886  after having been in quarintine at Peel island  a voyage that claimed 17 passengers lives through cholera.
The Mary Jane Ead marrying mr Hill could be a possibility as going by her marriage cert to Lorenzo Mary couldn't write as x marks the spot !!! it's not a common name the variations i have found consist of Aid /Eid&Eide .I will have to try to investigate furthur the info you have given me as it would be nice to know what became of her.thankyou once again kind regards aeroqueen

Hi Maggie,

I've checked the NSW BDM for your Mary EID {plus variations} and there is no sign of her there.
She is not listed as an incoming passenger to NSW either.

On the Australian Vital Records I found the only entry that could possibly be her.
Mary Jane EAD married Mountain Richard HILL, 1888, in Craigie, Victoria, Australia.

However, whether this is your Mary or not, I have no idea.

Cheers
Geoff

Hi Geoff & Maggie

With regards to the above record for Mary Jane EAD & Mountan Richard HILL, Craigie is Mary Jane's place of birth and not where they were married.  It appears that EAD is Mary Jane's maiden name, all the children born to the couple have her maiden name as EAD.

Cheers
Genni

~Can any kind person help me solve a family secret?~

In May/poss June 1921 Robert Twaddle and Jessica Sharkey arrived in England on the HMS Themistocles, complete with baby daughter Jean Twaddle born en route 18th May 1921.  Robert Twaddle went to Australia at some point before this, and returned with Jessica and Jean. During WWI Robert worked as deep sea diver in Australian army.

Unfortunately, a few links are missing:
1)When Robert went to Australia, and WHY? Jean maintains it was due to a family argument, but research discovers said argument took place in 1950's, long after Robert left and returned.

2)When Robert and Jessica married, before or after the birth of Jean and arriving in England

3)If Twaddle was assumed in England. There is a possibility that the surname was originally Tweddle

Ship possibly travelled from New South Wales.

This is a family secret, possibly because something unsavory occurred, eg Jean is illegitimate, Robert was a convict shipped to Australia etc. This problem has been bugging me for years, and I would really appreciate it if anyone could help!Thank you!

Hi ethryne

1)When Robert went to Australia, and WHY? Jean maintains it was due to a family argument, but research discovers said argument took place in 1950's, long after Robert left and returned.

The following is an entry from the Victorian shipping records:-

MR R TWADDLE  Aged 19 Arrived JAN 1913 Ship ORVIETO  Fiche ref: B 866 008

The National archives has Robert TWADDLE enlisting in the Army in Melbourne.  He Embarked on the 'HMAT Ballarat' in 1917.  His next of Kin is listed as Father Robert TWADDLE Burnhead Farm, Leamahgom, Lanark, Scotland.
There is also a Robert TWEDDLE who enlisted in WW1 - he was from Queensland.

You can ask that these records be digitised, may give you more information.
www.naa.gov.au

2)When Robert and Jessica married, before or after the birth of Jean and arriving in England
Where was Jessica SHARKEY born?
I couldn't find a marriage for a Robert TWADDLE in Victoria or NSW in the time period.

Cheers
Genni
