Hi

Are you able to look up or point me in the right direction. My Great Grandmother emigrated to Australia and settled in Sydney taking her daughters with her. I believe her eldest son, Charles Blunden was already there. She died in 1933 and it said on her death certificate she had been in 'The Colonies' 19 years which puts her emigration to abt 1914. Her name was Julia Blunden.

Thanks

Jan
Hi Jan,
I take it you require info on the son Charles, if so I found the following.

Charles BLUNDEN married Alice C KIRK 1905 at Inverell,NSW ref#1466
the only children I could locate are very widely spread so I suspect there may be more
Ewart C b 1906 at Inverell,NSW ref# 4138
Cecil C b 1916 at Randwick,NSW ref# 29671

Ewart C married Ethel A P REMFRY 1927 at Newtown,NSW ref# 9119

Cecil A married Ivy Margaret DRYDEN 1937 at Kempsey,NSW ref# 21170
Cecilis listed as Cecil Andrew BLUNDEN

There is also a death record for Charlesa BLUNDEN 1943 at Ryde,NSW ref# 13149
parents listed as Charles and Julia Ann.

Hope this helps in some way.
Cheers
Geoff

Thanks Geoff, That is really good of you. Can you tell me please how do I find out about the boat she and the girls were on and maybe when Charles arrived there. My father though she ran a shoe shop in Sydney, which is quite possible as some of the earlier Blundens were Cordwaniers.  Is there a web-site I can search. ?  Jan

Hi Geoff

Thanks for coming back to me.  I have been having great difficulty with this member of my family.

My dad's birth certificate in 1929 lists him as 42 born Australia and my dad's sister that died shortly after birth was  1925 at an age of  39.  My mom said that she understood he was born in Sydney.  With that in mind it would give me an approximate date of 1886.  My aunt gave me a date of 20th Nov 1882 but that really does not tie into the birth certificate.  My mom also seemed to think that his father was a James Henry Hudson, but that is looking more remote as the days go by.

At some point in time I think the family must have moved to South Africa .  My understanding is that he had a brother named Leonard (or Edward Leonard, a sister Daisy and another called Beatrice).  Not having had anything to do with them I know little about the family.

He was apparently awarded 3 medals during WW1:
1914-1915 Star to Private FW Hudson
Victory Medal to Clr Sjt FW Hudson
British War Medal to S/Sjt FW Hudson.

Because of the way the Sjt is written I am going to assume that was issued in South Africa while still falling under the British Colony.

I am not sure when he married my grandmother but I think it was in South Africa.  Ironically she was from Mackay Australia and I can now date her family, (Aitken, Cairns, Dewar, Brough) back to the 1600's on the brough line.  I am working on the Aitken and Dewar lines.

If you are able to find anything that would be really great if not I really appreciate all the effort you put into this for me.

Have a great day
Sharleen

Hi Wendy Mc,

Thanks for the information on the marriage of Ambrose William Wright and also his birth - it is most helpful.
I have been confused for sometime about this person as I knew that William Wright whose father was Thomas Wright and his mother Mary Kelly Stirling was married to Catherine Bailey (formerly McDonald) in Victoria in 1887. I presume that William and Catherine were divorced - is there any way for you to find this out?

Regards,

Alex

Hi Alex,

You can search the Victorian Divorce Index yourself at:-

www.macbeth.com.au/indexes/divsearch.html

The marriage cert. for William Ambrose Wright (or Ambrose William Wright) to Elizabeth Jane Russell should have his marital status.

The Victorian BDM's are online at:-

http://www.dvc.vic.gov.au/bdm.htm

You can purchase cert. online and they are downloaded to your computer immediately at a cost of $17-50.

If you do want to purchase anything, I can provide Registration No.s for you.

Hope this helps,

cheers,

Wendy :)

Hi Wendy Mc,

Thanks for the information - I had thought of obtaining a copy of the marriage certificate, but will firstly try the Divorce Index. His death certificate doesn't show the 1st marriage, so I am wondering if the 2nd wife actually knew he was previously married, so maybe the marriage certificate will not show anything.
Many thanks for you help.

Regards,

Alex :)

I would be overjoyed if someone could give me an idea of when Henry King, son of Nicholas, born in around 1850 in Hampshire arrived in Australia - I have just about given up.  I came out as a child (death certificate suggests under 10 but I feel it was later)  Married in sydney in 1871 (white) and again in 1875 (bennett).  Had some children rural NSW (hillend/sofala).

I thought I was onto something yesterday at the NSw records office - coldstream 1863 had Henry and Eliza but they were from dublin.

I know his life after he arrived but I don't klnow much before that.
