Thank you for looking up the deaths of some of the children of William Smith and Ann Bellerby.

I will continue my search for the death dates of John and Robert Smith their sons.  I think that these must have been prior to 1921.

Thanks again,  marp

charby,

You are looking for very recent information so the published indexes won't help.

You might wish to look in the phone directory?  It is online at:
http://www.whitepages.com.au/

You need to search by State and then by regional or metropolitan.

There are only 8 listings for STURT in South Australia and, unfortunately, none for an M STURT and none for Strathalbyn (Strathalbyn is not far south of Adelaide but comes under 'regional').

One of the 7 metropolitan listings is in a southern suburb (Bellevue Heights); the other six are all in northern suburbs.  There are maps for each location on the whitepages site.

The only regional listing is in Whyalla - a long way from Adelaide.  It's probably best to look on Multimap at:
http://www.multimap.com
if you want to see where Strathalbyn and Whyalla are...

Hi Charby,
A quick google of Mark Sturt didn't reveal a lot, but there is one showing up as a participant in a mountain bike event.  you will see this yourself if you put in the name and check 'pages from Aust'
If you then put this in google search -   www.mtba.asn.au
you may get a suitable contact through the club to check if he is yours or not.  They certainly do have aa Adelaide branch. Sue

Hi Sue and charby,

Yes, I did notice those hits on Google ;D  But assumed that charby would already have Googled them.  Perhaps I should have mentioned what a well-known name STURT is in Adelaide (including the name of a local AFL footy club).

I've driven in the Broken Hill, Innamincka, etc areas and places north - but can't imagine cycling there!!  It is harsh dry - but beautiful - country with vast distances.  And I've been to Depot Glen in the Corner Country (South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland meet there) where the famous explorer Charles Napier STURT was camped in the 1840s by a waterhole during an unbearably hot summer when nails jumped out of wooden chests and horn combs bent in the heat (well, I think that was the story!).  One could certainly very very easily imagine the truth of it - though Depot Glen is a beautiful spot (if you like the bush and can cope with very dry and very hot weather).

A relevant map is at:
http://outbacknsw.com.au/Regional%20Map.htm
Note that the Dig Tree (famous from the story of BURKE & WILLS) is also in this map.
Another beautiful place with a waterhole and birds and so on ... but also in the middle of harsh dry (and beautiful) country.

Information about Charles Napier STURT's explorations (including info about Grange, the home - open to the public - where he lived in Adelaide) is at:
http://users.esc.net.au/~pereilly/charles.htm

The name Sturt is quite common geographically in the Adelaide area.

Cheers,

JAP

Hi there again Jap ( my wonderful helper of recent times too!  Thanks forever.)

Yes, of course, Sturt is one of our most lauded, admired and folkore-worthy Aust. names.

The Mountain Bike Club entry was the only joining I could find of MARK and STURT. - so maybe worth a follow up.  It is hard to quite work out how old Charby's MARk might be, but he could well be of cycling age still.
Cheers, Sue
