Hi Dette

Interesting idea about the Autons, but unfortunately my Oughtons hail from Norfolk. I'm stuck on Horace Oughton born about 1800 in the Terrington area but I'll give your spelling a go and see if anything pops up.

The Botterills seem to be fairly numerous around the Market Weighton area. Oddly enough, although I was born and now live in Hull, I did live in Market Weighton many years ago - and had no idea my forebears came from the area!

I just discovered this site, and my attention was drawn to the Auton name.
Looking for Aweton (Auton?) around Fearby (Masham Parish) in the 1600's.  Ann Aweton married Robart Dawson in 1638.  Children born between 1640-41 and 1661 are Christopher, Elizabeth, Marye, Stephen, Thomas, and Ann. It's possible a descendant of this couple (several generations down the line) was my ggggrandfather, Christopher Dawson, who stated on the 1851 Rillington census he was born in Ripon, estimated DOB 1776.

Hi, Sue,

I'm interested in Botterill from Market Weighton too.

Anne Botterill bapt 1723 Market Weighton, daughter of Edward Botterill and Anne Cade who married 23 Feb 1720 Shipton by Thorpe, married William Ingram 1744 Shipton by Thorpe.

Her siblings were Edward, Anna Jane, John Cade, Mary (married Thomas Warton or Quarton), Elizabeth (married William Appleton, Matthias and John.
