Pangbourne Parish Registers-TERRY/TARRY
« on: Monday 26 June 06 11:05 BST (UK) »
Would be grateful for a look up if anyone have access to Pangbourne Parish Registers.   I have a Charles TERRY born c.1825 (gives age as 24 on 1851 census but 25 on marriage certificate in 1850 when he marries Eliza Edney in Pangbourne)

His father is James TERRY/TARRY but no idea of his mother.   There appears to be another Terry family in Pangbourne with same christian names and I don't want to get them muddled up.

Any help would be very much appreciated

Thanks

Wilma

Hello Wilma,
I believe this is part of my family on my mother's side. She was a Terry from Greenwich, London. Her grandfather, James, was a barge builder.
I have not done a lot of research on this side of my family for a few years but remember tracing them back to Pangbourne, Berks, where, I'm sure, they were also barge builders. That is where I came to a brick wall, with a Charles Terry, born about 1827, married to Elizabeth. In about 1853, Charles and Elizabeth had a son, James, who married Mary Anne Taylor. James was my mother's great grandfather. I hope this helps and would be grateful of any information you have on this family.
Yours,
Chris

Hi Wilma,

I know you made this post a long time ago, but it came back to the top of the list with Chris's reply.  Hopefully, this information is better late than never.

I had a chance to look at a transcript of Pangbourne registers today and found the following:

Charles, son of James & Martha Tarry baptised 28 Mar 1825.  James listed as labourer.

Other baptisms for this couple:

John b 7 Oct , bp 14 Oct 1804
Richard b 1 Dec, bp 28 Dec 1806
William b 7 Dec 1808, bp1 Jan 1809
Mary b 23 Nov, bp 17 Dec 1810
James b 2 Oct, bp 313 Oct 1813 (?buried 13 Apr 1833, aged 20) – recorded as Terry
? Anne b 27 Apr, bp 19 May 1816 – mother listed as Mary, but no other James & Mary Tarry children
Eliza bp 10 Jun 1821 (buried 24 July 1822 aged 1)
then Charles.

Burials: Martha Terry 2 April 1837 aged 53
James Tarry 6 March 1864 aged 87

Marriage found in Basildon:
James Tarry of Pangbourne married Martha Fuller 4 May 1804, witnesses Noah Lawrence & Rob Clarke

Martha Fuller baptised in Basildon 1 Feb 1784, daughter of Richard & Sarah Fuller.
