Wiiliam RUSH, a cutler, Colchester
« on: Sunday 25 June 06 22:08 BST (UK) »
William RUSH (c.1589-641) was a cutler who lived at St. Botolph's Colchester. His eldest son was also William (1611-1668) who married Anne Stuart. His descendants were brewers and eventually vinegar distillers. I am searching for the ANCESTORS of this first William.
I believe him to be related to Sir Thomas Rush (Russhe) of Sudbourne, Suffolk (c.1487-1537). The reason for this belief is that Sir William Beaumarice RUSH (1750-1833) a descendant of William was succesful in applying for an exemplification of the arms and crest used by the family of Sir Thomas, even though he could not prove descent.
I would be very grateful to hear from anybody who can help or who is researching any part of this family or the the family of Sir John Rush of Stratelty, Berkshire.
Incidentally all of the knighthoods in this family were awarded purely for services to the Crown - none of them were hereditary.
