Coddenham parish records
« on: Thursday 22 June 06 20:12 BST (UK) »
i am researching the family of
Fenning Brook and Ann Elizabeth nee Squirrell
and am a bit confused

on the 1841 census there are 2 chn
elizabeth bn suffolk abt 1838
and
ann bn suffolk abt 1839.

i have found a marriage on free BMD of Fenning and ann in 1842
Shoreditch (Ldn) Vol2 page 350,
so these 2 chn were born before the marriage
by 1851 they have 6chn
inc an Ann Elizabeth bn abt1838, but i cannot find the other child
from the 1841 census,
all the chn were born Coddenham,
so could anyone look at coddenham parish records and see if there were 2 chn born abt 1838, and 1839

Hi Margie

I have had a look at Coddenham baptisms and can only find one:

Ann Elizabeth, d/o Fenning and Ann Elizabeth Brook
born 2nd February 1838
baptised 23rd September 1838

Fenning Brook - a farmer.

The entry definitely said Fenning and Ann Elizabeth BROOK (as above) as if they were already a married couple - no mention of the child being base born or of the maiden name Squirrell.

Also, I could only see the one entry for Ann Elizabeth - is it possible the enumerator made a mistake in 1841 and put Ann Elizabeth as two children instead of one?

Kind regards
Anne

many thanks for the help,

thats definitely the family
and
it does support our thoughts about an error on the 1841,

Hi Margie
Not sure if you still look at Rootschat, but thought you may be interested to hear about an old bank safebox that I have had for many years. It has the name "Mr Fenning Brook" stencilled on it, and I was doing some research to see if I could find out more about the owner and came across your enquiry about the family. The box came from Lloyds Bank in Bramford Road, so presumably that is where the family banked.

Welcome! :)

What a lovely object.  I am sure Margi will be thrilled.  I note that she hasn't logged on to the site since April, but she should have received notification of your message.  Just to make sure, I am going to send her a Personal Message asking her to log in.  Unforunately, you are unable to send or receive Personal Messages until you have made 3 posts. :(

Fingers crossed!

Rick :)
