Hi

Elizabeth Bashford b 1873 in East Sutton, Kent had four older brothers - Robert b 1871 East Sutton; Vesper Jonathon b 1869 in Wateringbury; Ernest b 1867 in Aylesford. A younger brother Jonathon Edmund was b 1878 at East Sutton.
Robert was my mother's father.
The childrens' parent were Jonathon Bashford b 1838 in Barming, Kent and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) b 1837 at Aylesford, Kent. Jonathon was a gardener by trade as was his son Robert after him.
Robert Bashford settled in Gloucestershire.

He was my grandfather - lived many years at 7 Park Terrace, Minchinhampton after marrying a local girl. Died in about 1952. Had five children - the only branch carrying the Bashford name now live in Australia.

Hi
The stone is in the cemetery of St Peters in PRESTON village (Not the big ST Peters in Brighton)  These days Preston Village is a nothern suburb of Brighton.

The church, which is usually closed these days, is on the eastern side of Preston Manor, where London Road meets Preston Drove.

Go straight through the cemetery to the back of the church and you will find the stone set into the western wall that backs onto the park.

The cemetery is quite small so you shouldn't miss it, but take some nuts to feed the squirrels.

There is a map on this website

If you can't visit the church itself, go to the website that I have already given you (for the map) and you will find pictures of St Peters in Preston Park.
If you then want a picture of the stone, go to the website  below.
http://www.womenofbrighton.co.uk/celiaholloway.htm
By the way, that site incorrectly says the church is St Johns.

Whilst website hopping, there are at least two other sites which you could also visit which contain versions of the story itself.  They are,

Thank you roy

I all ready have read both sites .

If you go to google books and google john holloway  you can get a pdf version of his book from there And if you wish i can send copies of the newspaper reports from the London times of the trial and hanging of John Holloway.
Thru Genes Reunited i have also been in contact with someone who is related to him . I have been studying the case for some time as i am her gggrand nephew.
