1841 Census - William Colver
« on: Tuesday 20 June 06 21:30 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Please could anyone help me find William Colver (a shoemaker) on the 1841 Census. He was born 1811 in Earl Shilton, Leics. The son of Thomas & Mary Colver.
In 1842 he married Charlotte Robson in Oxford.
Any details much appreciated.
Regards,
Inchworm  :)

Many thanks. I will look into that one. It is a good possibility as I don't think that there were that many Colvers living in Oxford area.
Would it be poss. to find his parents, Thomas & Mary. I don't have any dates, but they were poss. from Leicestershire and thir first child was born in 1801, the last in 1825.

And hello again! Apologies for picking up on this years later, but I just searched for Colvers and all your entries came up.  Also lost all my emails last year so it's possible we've been in touch before - brain like a seive!

William was my ggg grandfather.  Thomas died in 1828 in Earl Shilton, age 57.  I've not been able to identify his birth record though I suspect he was the son of William and Elizabeth (Ward) and that the death register incorrectly has him as dying in 1784 (the record is confused somehow and relates to another Thomas who may actually have been called William - never untangled it).

Mary is in the 1841 census with her son Edward: 1841 census: Chapel Row, Earl Shilton
Age 65-69, with son Edward (20-25), Occupation: Seamstress

There are death and burial records for her in 1842, age 68.  I've never found her maiden name.

Cheers
