James Allan Chapel of Garioch
« on: Tuesday 20 June 06 19:46 BST (UK) »
Hi Guys,

I am looking for info on a James Allan born 22/01/1836 Chapel of Gairoch to a James Allan & Jane (Aitken) Allan, I have him on the 1851 Census staying at High Street, Inverurie and employed as a farm laborer aged 15 then he disappears.

He had siblings as follows-

Elizabeth Mearns Allan 31/05/1838
Jean Allan 19/12/1840
William Allan 14/01/1846
John Clark Allan 4/03/1849
Robert Allan 3/01/1852

I have info on all the boys but have been unable to locate the girls on the 1851 yet I have them on the 1841 which leads me to think they may have died before 1851

If anyone would care to try and shed some light on this family please do

Thanks in advance,

Swally

Hi Swally
Were the grandparents of your James Allan, James Allan and Isobel Cruickshank (married Rayne, Aberdeen 29/6/1793). They had about 5 children (Elisabeth, Isobel, Jean, Robert, William). Elisabeth is my gr gr grandmother.  Chapel Garioch is in Rayne, and I see that some of the Allan chn were christened there. Perhaps your James was a child of William's?

Mary,

My James is the son of James Allan & Jane (Aitken) Allan born 22/01/1836 Chapel of Gairoch.
Jane was born in Udny and I have he dying in Inverurie a widow, her death was registered by the Inspector of the poor.

If you wish to share anything else please do.

all the best,

Swally

Hi,I'm wondering if you managed to find out anything about the "missing"James,Elizabeth & Jean?
If Jane applied for poor relief after her husband died, then the application form will have details of her offspring, those dependant on her & will also list those who have left home & where they are working.I found out my Granny had a brother none of us knew of this way!
