I have just registered with Rootschat and read this posting. I am researching the Baileys of Shaw, Chieveley, Abingdon and East Hendred, who are my ancestors. I have records dating back to 1752.

One of Newbury's most illustrious sons is a BAILEY - the astronomer Francis BAILEY. There is a book on his family by LG Horton-Smith an industrious researcher back in the 1920s-1950s.

The family is (as far as I can recall) from Thatcham, Newbury and Speen.

But his name is actually spelled BAILY, and there does not appear to be any connection.
