I am researching the name HEVENINGHAM. The family originated from the village of Heveningham in Suffolk where Sir Richard de Heuenigham held lands in the reign of Henry II. The family also held lands in Essex and Norfolk.
A younger son of the Norfolk branch, Erasmus, married a Stanley heiress and settled on her estates in Staffordshire and became the ancestor of the Staffordshire Heveninghams. They can be found mainly in Lichfied but can also be found in the Stone, Cannock and Wolverhampton areas. They eventually branched out to Birmingham and the name then became known as HENNINGHAM (which is how is is pronounced).
Other dirivatives of the name are : HEUENYNGHAM, HYNINGHAM, HENINGHAM, HEVINGHAM, HEAVENINGHAM, HEVYNGHAM.
I would welcoming hearing from anyone who is interested in this old English family and the families they married into.
