Stanley Perry (1896 Ilford Essex) Help please!
« on: Monday 19 June 06 13:35 BST (UK) »
This gentleman would be my Great Uncle. His parents James Henry Perry and Louisa Amy Minnie (nee Kitchener)known as Amy, had 7 children. My Grandfather, Captain Harry James Bingham Perry(Merchant Navy/RNR) , his brother, was, according to his family, due to meet Stanley in Trafalgar Square on the 11th November 1917/8 (I think ) but because of all the crowds they obviously never found one another.
I have absolutely no other information about him, he has no middle names, and I/we have no idea whether he served in the 1st World War Army, Navy or other or may have been killed, married or what?

His brother had six children of which only two survive, I would dearly love to be able to find some info on Stanley to give to his nieces. If you have any ideas or suggestions that would help me achieve this I would be very grateful as wars and things like this hold no interest to me what so ever.

Thankyou in anticipation

Libby

Hi Libby

You can check Royal Navy personnel for that time period because the index gives date/place of birth

as suggested I checked the Royal Navy register, unfortunately none are him. Is there no way of checking army records in the same way? This guy can't have disappeared of the face of the earth....... well I suppose he could. Would he have been too young for the Boer War?
Please any suggestions ideas etc
Many thanks

No, not really - not all army records survive and the soldiers are often more difficult to place :(

As he was quite young, maybe he still lived at home with his parents ???

If so, and you know where they lived, it may be worthwhile to try and find out if any absent voters (electoral rolls) exist for 1918/1919 ................ this might give his number and regiment if he is listed but you will need to know where to look.  They are usually kept at the main local library/archives for the area.

Best wishes

Will I be able to access the absent voters list online because I probably won't be able to get there in person. Mind you I could use the county board and ask if someone could help :-\
Many thanks casalguidi, your help is appreciated, I will keep you posted.

I don't know your place of interest, but the only ones that I am aware of online are http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,159133.0.html

If you have the full address (often they are in chronoligical order with no surname index) then you may be able to get a lookup from the relevant library/archives if they survive.

Best wishes

The family in the 1901 census where at Gt Clacton Essex, I have posted a message on the Essex forum to see if anyone can help with the electoral roll. Stanley was not a main priority but on Saturday we where at a very large family celebration and his two neices asked if I had found anything out about him...... so he's now main priority!!!

thanks again

Hi Libby

You may need to establish an exact address ie. house number/street/town or village for 1918/1919 ................. electoral registers are often not indexed.  Saying that, however, local street directories (if they survive) were usually indexed so that may be a shortcut to locating the family.  Again, you will need to enquire about the whereabouts of these.

Good luck
