Thomas Sutton & family after 1881
« on: Sunday 18 June 06 17:15 BST (UK) »
After being with another part of the family for a while I'm now back with the Suttons:

in 1881 Thomas(1845) is in Chislehurst with wife Sarah(1854, born Worcestershire) & children:
Edith 1874 (born Chislehurst)
George  1875 ( ditto)
Elizabeth 1878 (ditto)
Rose 1880 (ditto)

RG11/858 Bromley,Chislehurst folio 23,  p2

After this they seem to have disappeared.   >:(
I've checked 1891 & 1901 for all sorts of spellings and found zilch, so thought I'd see if the Rootschat usual magic is at work. Can anyone find them?  ;)

Any thoughts welcomed too.

Thanks
Mark

This looks likely for their marriage:

Thomas Henry Sutton and Sarah widows, registered Mar qtr 1872, Bromley

HI Caz,

Thanks for the deaths - at least it looks like I can eliminate two of them.

Yes I had the marriage

It had been suggested by a fellow sutton researcher tha thge ycould have died, and tha the rest of the family moved out of Kent, or tht Sarah remarried. So I wonder where the others are.

Thanks

I wonder if Sarah moved back to Worcestershire. There is a Rose Sutton (age slightly wrong though) in worcestershire in 1891. i couldn't see a marriage for Sarah offhand though.

It might be worth looking through the free death registers on ancestry for the period 1881-1891 for them.

Sounds good so far - who is Rose with? Any chance they're relations?

I know that often families were 'fostered out' to different regions when the father died and there wa no means of support. (This happened to my gran's family - they were sent from dartford to Horsham). Perhaps the kids were seperated & 'farmed out' ?

Hi Mark

As this is an old posting, I assume that you have got all your info by now.

Thomas Henry Sutton born at the "Rats Nest" Foots Cray, Chislehurst, Kent in 1845.  He died 17 Sept 1883 of Paraplegia, resulting from falling from a church steeple whilst attending to the weather vane.  His daughter Elizabeth Sutton, my grand mother, married William Redworth in 1896 who by birth was a Romani of the Shadrach Boswell line.  I have quite a bit of the Sutton family in my tree.

If you would like to compare notes I would be pleased to hear from you.

Ray
