Janice,
How very intresting indeed.  I have one Mary Alsop marrying a William Shepherd in my tree.Their son William married a Sarah Andrews in 1807.  We assume that William and Mary would have been born around 1766 somewhere around Iron Acton.

Hopefully this will help in some small way for both our trees.  Any further Questions?  Please ask and I will supply what little I do have.

Kind regards

Thanks there seems to be a lot of Alsops from around this area.I came across a old newspaper you can get on to it from the Bristol site. There was a death of a Daniel Alsop, a coalminer, in the late  1700's, also a John Alsop.
Somewhere along the line I am sure someone will find the link, that will give a alsop family tree that unites everyone seeking there Alsop roots. The site of the old newspaper records was.

Janice,
Many thanks for your reply.  I will post here if I find anything new.  Are the Alosp's related to you too?  Yes I read that you are; so what are the odds that we may be related???   How many cousins might that be (50th cousin lol)?  Not worth thinking about at this stage.

Kind regards
Robert & Karon

Well thanks for the message.I hope one day someone will take me back further on my Alsop line.It is strange that in researching my family tree I have found so much gloucester blood, from three separate lines .Knight, from the forest of Dean, Smith, Barton ect, from Rockhampton, and Hill, and of course my Alsop line. All only a few miles from Bristol.Perhaps if I go back a few hundred years, I may find they were all related.
Perhaps it might explain why I am so Mad,LOL.Anyway sites like this are a great help.

Janice,

Its been a while since we last met here  8) .

I dont know if this will help with your ALSOP family, but here is hoping:

Sebrah THORNDELL, b. 1732 in Frampton Cotterl, Gloucestershire, christened 24 FEB 1732 in Frampton Cotterl, Gloucestershire.  She married Andrew ALSOP, married 12 NOV 1761 in Frampton Cotterl, Gloucestershire.
            Children:
i   Mary ALSOP, b. 1762 in Frampton Cotterl, Gloucestershire, christened 22 AUG 1762 in Frampton Cotterl, Gloucestershire.  She married William SHEPHERD, married 23 APR 1786 in Iron Acton, Gloucestershire.

Mary Alsop is my GGGG grandmother married to William Shepherd (b c1761), 23-04-1786 in Iron Acton, Gloucestershire.

I have no further information on the ALOSP who married THORNDELL.  However I do have the THORNDELL line back for about 200 years to the mid 1500's

Hope that this helps with your lot :)

Cheers
Robert of Robert & Karon.

Hello Janice,

I'm believe I'm descended from William Alsop (b. abt 1836, Trevethin), father of William James, and George (my g-grandfather, 99% sure), husband of Sarah, in the 1861 census.

I know there is another William (abt 1838), who I assume is yours?  I have trouble with the two.

I'm less certain about William in the 1841 and 1851 censuses (censi?), I think -

1851 - George Allsop, 27, head, Harriet, 24, wife, John, 7, son, Rachel, 3, dau, William, 15, lodger, (all Pontypool birth place), and Stephen Allsop, 60, lodger, Gloucestershire.

1841 - Stephen Alsop, 1791-1796, not in county, Thomas, 1816-1821, not in county, George, 1821-1826, Joseph, 1830, Elizabeth, 1832, William, 1836 (these in county).

but I'm not so sure.  I've given age ranges in the 1841 because of the rounding down for those over 15 years.  Perhaps the lodgers are lodging with son/brother in 1851?

Are any of these yours not mine? Or, are they related to yours in some way (they're ours, as it were)?

Any help appreciated, I'm new to this.

Sincerely
Brent Alsop in NZ.

bla002,
Looks like this lot 'may' be related at least by location somehow, somewhere, in the dim distant past.  If we can bridge the gap (1760 - 1800) from my Mary Alsop b 1762 in F.C., daughter of Andrew Alsop and Sebrah Thorndell, we may be able to work in tandem and help eachother.

We were all new once, so congratulations on getting in here and having a go.  True ANZAC grit  ;)

Keep up the good work Brent.

Regards
Robert & Karon

Thanks Robert and Karon,

It's a little bit addictive I've found.  A jig-saw puzzle with odd poignant moments (my William got killed at age 54 in 1890 the Llanerch Colliery explosion - poor buggar).

Question:  Was there a movement of Alsop/Allsop/Allsopp/Alsopp from Gloucestershire to Monmouthshire about 1800?  Going through some of the Mon. parish transcripts, it looked as if they "appear" about that time?

Must dash, kids to feed.
