Most of the 1890 US census was destroyed in a fire.  Part of NY still exists, but that doesn't include Brooklyn.  I didn't come up with any Quigleys for the surviving portion of 1890 census on HeritageQuest (which has a head of household index).  That being said, I found the following in 1900. . .

In Gem, Shoshone, Iowa
  • Valintine J. Quigley, head, b. June 1866, age 33, married 5 yrs., he/parents were b. in England, immigrated 1870, in US for 30 yrs., naturalized citizen, printer, rents house
  • Annie, wife, b. Aug. 1868, age 31, no children, she & mother b. in Iowa, father b. in Michigan
both could read, write & speak English

In Manhattan, New York, New York at 321 9th Ave.
  • Thomas Ceely, head, b. Jan. 1857, age 43, married 19 yrs., he/parents b. in England, immigrated 1879, in US for 21 yrs., naturalized citizen, shoe fitter, rents house
  • Mary, wife, b. May 1863, age 37, had 9 children (7 now alive), she/parents b. in England, immigrated 1868, in US for 32 yrs.
  • Mary, daughter, b. June 1881, type writer, unemployed 3 mos.
  • Adeline, daughter, b. July 1885, age 18, type writer, unemployed 2 mos.
  • Phebe, daughter, b. July 1887, age 12
  • Walter C?, son, b. June 1888, age 11, attended school for 9 mos.
  • Vallery, daughter, b. Feb. 1890, age 10, attended school for 9 mos.
  • Arthur B., b. Apr. 1892, age 8, school for 9 mos.
  • Horace, son, b. June 1895, age 4, attended school for 2 mos.
all could read, write & speak English, & the children were all born in NY

I can attempt to find more later, if someone else doesn't help you.

I wanted to add that I found a James in Minnesota in 1900:

James Quigley born England Oct., 1857, Shoe Maker. Father & Mother born Ireland. Naturalized 1889.

Found no other James' from England in 1900 or 1910 census. You may want to look at deaths in New York. Follow this link:

I also found a Thomas F. from England in Arizona in 1910 whos birth year matches your Tom,  naturalized 1880, was a copper miner and lists both parents from England. Has a wife named Ella age 50 born England. They had children James 10,  Helen 7, Isabel 5 all born in Pennsylvania. Bartholo(a)mew age 2 born Arizona.

Dear Amy

Thank you so much for this, they certainly moved around the USA. There would not be too many Valentine's I would imagine. I am sure you have the right Mary too, and it so nice to see descendants.
I think Susan, or Susie, married a Bennett, Theresa married Northam. I am more than happy with what you have sent me, so I do not expect for you to spend more time.

Thank you again,
Kind regards,
Pat

I don't mind doing the lookups.  I will look again over the next couple days as I find some spare time.

Bennett is unfortunately a common name, so I haven't been able to find Susie yet.  This could be her sister though. . .

  • John J? Northam, head, b. Sept. 1862, age 37, married 14 yrs., he/parents born in NY, clothier, owns a mortgaged home
  • Therese, wife, b. May 1863, age 29, had 1 child, her/father b. in England, mother b. in Ireland, immigrated 1890, in US for 10 yrs.
  • Therese, daughter, b. Jan. 1887, age 3, born in NY, attended 10 mos. of school
all could read, write & speak English

Dear Amy

That is so  wonderful that you have traced another one for me. And as Bennett is a common name please do not worry about the second one. I am very grateful for what you have sent me. I do have a Smith too! but I thought I would leave that!

Such a lot of information available in the US censuses I wonder what they did with it all?

Again many thanks for all your hard work it is really appreciated,

Kind regards,
Pat
