Emmigration to South Australia
« on: Friday 16 June 06 02:36 BST (UK) »
I am having difficulty determining which Thomas Tregoning is my ancestor and would like somebody to look up when any Thomas Tregoning's arrived in South Australia OR Victoria and who they travelled with.  I believe he arrived in Australia in the late 1850s.

If you have other information about where in Cornwall they came from, that would be most helpful too.

Thanks.

Hi Abby,

on the Unassisted Immigration to Victoria list there is the following:-

Thos Tregoning aged 22yrs, arrived 1857 aboard the ship 'Tiptree'

Also travelling aboard the same ship were, Wm Tregoning age 34, Rchd Tregoning age 26 and  John Tregoning age 29.

You can check the site for yourself and see what you think.

Hope this helps,

Magoo :)

Hi Jenn,
I was reading this and you shouldn't have to apologise to Kris at all. You didn't know this was on another board. I feel this type of thing where two or more branches of one persons topic should be linked up properly OR locked as none of us are mind readers and do not know if another branch has been opened up on another board

Hi Magoo  :)
Thanks for the information you provided re Thomas and siblings who arrived in Victoria on "Tiptree".  I have a recollection of my grandfather telling me his grandfather walked from Melbourne to Moonta (South Australia) to work in the mines, but I didn't really know if this was true - or possible!!  Anyway, perhaps it was true and these Tregoning's are my ancestors.  Do you have any way of checking death records in Victoria and South Australia (probably in Moonta) to see whether these Tregoning's died in Victoria or SA?  Or, do you have access to shipping records into SA to see whether there was a Thomas Tregoning who arrived into Port Adelaide?
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Abbyrose
