Hi,
I've just found out that one of my ancestors, Joseph Ann (yes female!) Clark had a sister called Salome Asenath Clark (b. 1829), parents possibly born Nottingham.
Their mother moved with Salome to liverpool to work as a hatmaker and "small wares dealer".
I thought Salome Asenath was quite unusual...has anyone heard if some Romani shared this name? I've found out they are Hebrew names...maybe they are of Jewish descent instead? Are there any Romani Clarks from Nottingham?

I think loads of them aren't really 'Romany' names as such but fairly different none the less.

EDIT: Just looked through my tree so have added a few more. A lot of these are non-direct ancestors...I don't just have a crazy name family tree. My siblings all have strange names...must be in the blood.

I have a female relative called Stewart/Stuart Ann...
I think many Hebrew names were used by non-Jews so they could still be Romani with a Hebrew name.

That's interesting what you said about an ancestor being called Stewart Ann!!!
Were they the names of her parents by any chance as my Joseph Ann's parents were called just that! Most census say Joseph Ann too, although there is one that says Josephine, which is probably what they thought she said.
They don't seem to be Romani though...they lived in a house in 1841 and Joseph Ann and Saloma Aseneth's mother was a hat maker  they were born in Nottingham and spent about 30 years in Liverpool before returning home. I thought their names were very strange.
