I have just come across your query.
I have Robert Brotherick married Elizabeth Turnbull 22.3.1806 at Tynemouth.
Trying to trace the children born after the marriage until those baptised 1819.
These are not at Earsdon or adjacent parishes. I rather suspect non Anglican entries - there are a lot of Chapels in the area!

Have you carried out any further research since your initial entry.
I plan to check for 1806 Banns when I go to RO next.
I will share any information if you wish.

I have stumbled across this posting while researching the Brotherick family in the North East and the whereabouts of Sandy Island Seaton Deleval. My maternal grandmother was Dorothy Colman Webster whose mother was Margaret Elliott Brotherick daughter of Robert b 1841 Seaton Sluice (1881 Census).

It seems that those looking for more information on the Brothericks/Turnbulls are connected to my family research also.

Elizabeth Turnbull born in 1781 is my 5 x Great Grandma, as you all know she married Robert Brotherick who was born in 1780.

Their marriage date was the 22nd March 1806, I have it just registered in Tynemouth.

Their children were:

Elizabeth Brotherick B 1808
Edward Brotherick B 1820- 1871
Mary Brotherick B 1820
Robert Brotherick B 1821-1905.

My line is with Edward who went onto marry Margaret Lane B 1820-1860. They had 6 children:

Robert Brotherick B 1841-1921
Edward Brotherick B 1843-1899
Mary Ann Brotherick B 1846-1921 who later went onto marry Robert Hornsby
Thomas Brotherick B 1850
Margaret Jane Brotherick B 1854- 1865
Elizabeth Brotherick B 1858

Mary Ann Brotherick, is my 3rd Great Grandma who married Robert Hornsby; they had 12 children , one of which was called Mary Robson Hornsby , my Grt Grt Grandma who married James Evans, his father was from Wales. They had 5 children, their only daughter Catherine Ann Evans being my Great Grandma.

She married William John Bland Clough from Burradon and had 5 children. One of their sons George Evans Clough is my Grandfather. He married Beatrice Annie Forster and had 3 children..

Other than this basic information I am unable to find anyone further back connected to both the Turnbulls and the Brothericks. Any information anyone can help me with would be greatly appreciated.

Robert Brotherick and Elizabeth Turnbull were married by license, both were single

I looked this up particularly because there is a baptism in Tynemouth 1805 where the father of the child was a Robert Brotherick, mariner, North Shields native of Hebron.  Just wondering if Robert was married before but the license said he was a bachelor

You can find the license on the Family Search site Marriage Bonds and Allegations for 1806--page 246 of 1164

Robert Brotherick was a mariner of this parish (Tynemouth) and Elizabeth Turnbull was of Earsdon parish, the other name there is Robert Turnbull, Tynemouth,  gardener. Wit: Thomas Kelly and James Thompson

I don't know who Robert Turnbull was--maybe father or some other relative

thank you for that... I have come across a Robert Turnbull before, he is Elizabeths father. Though I have no idea of the other two witnesses, as those surnames mean nothing in connection to this family- perhaps they were neighbours?

Robert did marry quite old, I guess for the era, so perhaps he had been married before, he was of course a mariner, so may have travelled around a lot. Its not impossible for bigamy to be involved.

I don't have a listing of Tynemouth marriages but either could have been what we loosely term "serial witnesses".  Usually some person that works at the parish church or might live next door.  The Bishop transcripts don't give the witnesses I got that from the marriage bonds index part.

That other baptism was from Tynemouth Christ Church baptism register.  It was the only one. The license says bachelor though - no specific age--just over 21.

So the Bishops transcripts have names of different witnesses at the wedding than the marriage bonds?

No the BT's for this parish has just the names and date--the regular parsih record may have more however it will be only a little more.
