CONNELL Family from Tubrid or Tubride!
« on: Sunday 11 June 06 16:31 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate the Connell family who lived in Tubrid.

My great-great grandfather was James Connell, father of Hugh Connell (my great-grandfather).

I sent for the marriage certificate of my great-grandparents i.e. Huge Connell (born 1853) who married married Anne Walsh (born 1860) - they married on 17th February 1881, Hugh was 28 and Anne was 21, both resided at Tubrid Anne Walsh's father was Edward Walsh - a farmer and James Connell was a labourer.

Witnesses were: Mary Donohue and a Pat Cauen (can't make out the spelling of this!)  They married in the Chapel of Mountnugent in the superintendent registrar's district of Oldcastle in the registrar's district of Ballyjamesduff.

As both Huge Connell and Anne Walsh were born before registration I don't think I will be able to obtain birth certificates, and as only the father's names are on the marriage certificates I have no mother's names.

Hi,

Not sure if you will get this (fingers crossed)...I am also researcing the Connell family in the same area. I am looking for an Ann Connell who married a Thomas Coyle. Their daughter married a Matthew Shaw in 1878 in the Chapel of Mount Nugent, District of Ballyjamesduff, Oldcastle Co Cavan.

I am unsure at this point of Ann's parents names....not sure if we can help each other or not....

I haven't come across an Ann Connell in my family tree yet - just wish I could help you further but Hugh Connell had 7 children i.e. James (1883), Matthew (1984), Matthew (1887), Peter (1892), Margaret (1894), Patrick Joseph (1896) and Bridget (1900).  Hugh's father was a James Connell that's all I know up to now.  Unless James's siblings had an Ann?

Please let me know if you get any further on it as I havent managed to get any further with my research - quite difficult researching Irish ancestry but I did get further than I originally thought I would.

Kindest regards,
June
