beaby sanderson

Has anyone found a Beaby, probably female, during course of research? I'm looking for a Beaby, wedding witness in 1868, Yorkshire. I've tried Beatrice, and other likely sounding names, without success. Nothing shows on IGI or Census.  Any help will be gratefully accepted.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat, I hope we'll be able to give you some help.

First of all your placename help, I didn't want to add on to the bottom of a Link so can I suggest that if you go to www.streetmap.co.uk you can check where your places are.  Ardsley seems to be just east of Barnsley but Woodkirk is east of Batley and coincidentally a little south west of a place called "West Ardsley" which might be the one you mean.

Onto your other query of Beaby, first of all it might help us if you can give all details from the marriage certificate, names, addresses and full witnesses names, including their surname as we may be able to find them on a census.  Secondly is it possible that you could scan part of the certificate and post a portion (not the whole cert.) on here and we can see it for ourselves and try to work it out that way.

Mary

I think the name would be Betsey

1851 census - Little Barugh, Yorkshire
John Sanderson Head M 44 Ag Lab Yorkshire Westerdale
Grace Wife M 40 Yorkshire Harum
Mary Ann daur 12 " Pickering
Harriet " 11 " "
George Son 9 " Brawby
John Henry Son 6 " Pickering
William Son 5 " "
Betsey daur 3 " "
Lucy " 1 " "
HO107/2373 Spilsby Wainfleet All Saints Folio 268 Page 16

That would make John Henry about 23 in 1868 at the time of his marriage, would that fit in with the details from the certificate? and was his father John?

In 1861 they were living at Sinnington, Marton, Yorkshire

By any chance was John Henry's occupation a wheelwright?

Taking a guess here, I have an Emma of similar age to the above Betsey and birthplace the same so they may well have been friends.  If Emma's father worked as a corn miller and was deceased before her marriage then we might have cracked it.

1851 Harum, Yorkshire
John Tate Head M 37 Corn Miller Servant Yorkshire Lastingham
Mary Wife M 38 Yorkshire Harum
Hannah daur 12 Scholar " "
John Son 8 " " "
William Son 6 " " "
Emma daur 2       " "
Sarah J daur 5 months " "
HO107/2372 Helmsley Folio 153 Page 9

1861 Village of Harum, Yorkshire
Richard Myers Head M 42 Farmer of 50 Acres 1 man 1 boy, also a mill Yorkshire Mannington
Mary Myers Wife M 48 Yorkshire Harum
Jesse Myers Son Un 17 Ag Lab " "
Mary Myers daur 9 Scholar " "
Hannah Tate daur Un 22 Housekeeper " "
Emma Tate daur Un 12 Scholar " "
Sarah Tate daur un 10 " " "
Augusta Tate granddaur 5 Scholar " "
John Tate grandson 1                    " "
George Sarason Servant Un 30 Farm Servant Foreman " "
RG9/3637 Helmsley Folio 61 Page 15

If this is the wrong Emma - you'll know by the father on the cert. there are other Emma Tates, but also another born in Harum visiting John and Ellen Carr and their daughters in Old Malton.

I'm pinning things on Harum since it seems to figure in both families.
