Can anyone suggest where I might start looking for the cemetery  of someone who died in the Maryhill area of Glasgow in 1918??  Would appreciate any help.

Here's the details that Billy wanted to give you -

Cemeteries & Crematoria  Registrar
20 Trongate
Glasgow
G1 5ES

Phone:0141 287 3961
E-mail: land@glasgow.gov.uk

Is there no indication on the Death Cert?

Keep in mind though that if there was a family plot/lair it might be away from the Maryhill area.

Good luck in your search.

Thanks - I checked wth Land Services , 20 Trongate - but they said they needed to know the name of the cemetery before they could help me.
On the death registers they have in the last row "Maryhill" on one and "Chryston" on the other.
Could that be the name of the cemetery??

Hi Again

The last column is 'Where & When registered' and is the Records Office of the time  -  but in some certs, the third last column is 'Burial Place, Undertaker, or other Person, by whom certified'. This column doesn't seem to appear after 1865 though ( I think it came back  in 1972 :-\).

Chryston is next to Muirhead (to my knowledge), and is a different place from Maryhill.   I'm afraid your not really any further forward.  Have you tried the Glasgow & West of Scotland Family History society? They may have MI's of Lanarkshire published.

The only other thing I can suggest is having a look at ....

Good luck

Thanks for your info.    I am planning a trip to Glasgow in August.   Since I will only have a couple days to work on this - can you suggest where would be the best place to go.
I will also be in Edinburgh a couple days- would they have the same info ??  Would appreciate any advise.
Thanking you in advance.

Hi Jamy,
Don't know if this helps or hinders - Chryston is nowhere near Maryhill. Could the person have originally been from Chryston and the body returned for burial in a family plot?
The Mitchell Library would probably be able to help you; I can't remember their web site, but www.glasgow.gov.uk is the City Council website and has links to libraries etc.  If you only have two days in the city, it's probably best if you can narrow down your search as far as possible!
Sorry if this causes more confusion - but good luck in your search!
